[GFSD Issue] Rebrand Thunderbird to Icedove or similar

Project:Trisquel
Version:6.0
Component:Packages
Category:bug report
Priority:blocking
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:closed
Description

perhaps thunderbird should be debranded, since the logo and name seems to fall under the same licensing restrictions as firefox.

https://www.mozilla.org/foundation/licensing.html

users may need to create a symbolic link in their home directory:

ln -s .thunderbird .icedove

having a dummy thunderbird package that points to icedove would aid in the transition.

Trademark restriction are acceptable in free systems.
(see http://www.gnu.org/distros/free-system-distribution-guidelines.html#trademarks )

The issue with Firefox is that it is included by default in Trisquel installations.

In addition, the URL for addonds need to be changed.

Increasing the priority to blocking as the rebranding and the addons URL are both freedom bugs.

Hello, I'm a fairly new user to trisquel but have been using gnu/linux and exclusively free software for some time now, I'll try to fix this issue. It is a good way for me to learn more to help the project.

If an exemple of the URL problem is needed, as I told in my mother language forum https://trisquel.info/fr/forum/icedove-et-autres#comment-53530 , I founded that addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/fr/thunderbird/addon/thunderbrowse/?src=search that has this licence: http://thunderbrowse.com/thunderblog/license/ that is clearly not free.

About the name Icedove or another, it looks like Debian's Icedove doesn't change the addon URL https://wiki.debian.org/Icedove .
I don't know where abrowser comes from, I remember it was on Ubuntu and maybe Debian before Icedove, but it existed as a rebranding of firefox previous to Trisquel version, I don't even know if Trisquel version is different from that that was on Ubuntu.
Anyway, it would be interesting to have a clear naming politic that should be:
-Only using already existing name if there is a rebranding that should be reused (maybe that is the case of abrowser).
-Using already existing branding name only if it is rebranded for the same reason (for exemple: IceWeasel, the GNUZilla Browser is made for the same reason, so, even if the version is different, this name would be used, the differince being a full name like Trisquel IceWeasel and GNUZilla IceWeasel).
-Using already existing branding name, regardless the rebranding version from where the name comes from is rebranded for the same reason or not (for exemple: Icedove, the difference being also in the full name: Trisquel Icedove and Debian Icedove).
-Always unsing unexisting name, for exemple: Louernos for firefox, Gwernabwy for thunderbird (then, the fact of creating an unexisting logo should also be concidered).
I think the second and third option are no good option, I think (but I'm not sure), the first explains the name "abrowser" (but as I don't know, it might also be explained by the second and the third one) and I personaly think the forth option is the best one.

BTW, Trisquel is switching from Abrowser to GNU Icecat for the next release, Belenos.

Thunderbird should not be used because it has trade mark issues that requires special permission to use Mozilla trade name "Thunderbird" and the Thunderbird logo. Only because Debian has such special permission (Icedove has been renamed back to Thunderbird) doesn't make it free.
