Critical bug: Need YOUR help fixing!

I want to bring attention to the fact that we have a critical bug that needs fixing. We can only do it with YOUR help! Trisquel did not meet the goal it set of having 100 associate members by the end of 2011.
If you haven't already joined as an associate member please consider doing so. This will help the long term viability of this free software project. Even if you can only contribute 5 euros a month that is a great help. That is less then the price of seeing a movie at the cinema and in return you get a better free distro.
Please join with me and help us close this bug!
P.S. I am not receiving any financial compensation from the Trisquel project.
Also translators feel free to translate this and post it in the respective language forums.
I have just translated the post for the French-speaking forum: https://trisquel.info/fr/forum/bogue-critique-besoin-de-votre-aide-pour-le-corriger
Very glad to greet the new members! :-)
I can translate it to Portuguese. Why there is no forum in Portuguese?
I just became an associate member now. I've been meaning to do so for a while, but I kept telling myself "Meh, I'll do it later." I guess now is later enough.
I really want to contribute but here are my problems I would like to see fixed before I do:
1. More concrete release schedule. I know that the team is small and things can be unpredictable, but it is already 4 months into the release of Ubuntu 11.10 and no updates. Some Ubuntu based distros get a release within a month or so, but all is dark here. The reason I want this is because I can plan system updates on my desktop and eventually have some timeline of release if I run Trisquel on a web server.
2. I really want to help test the code for upcoming releases. For a project that prides itself in being open, I can't find any alpha or beta release ISOs or GIT servers of anything the team is working on. That may include themes and configuration files or any unique software to Trisquel.
If the owners of this project can improve on those two things for me, then I am more obliged to contribute monetarily and with coding and testing.
I can't answer number one for you but on number two I can maybe answer it.
The source is obviously available on the download page. I don't know of any current alpha or beta releases for the release corresponding to Ubuntu 11.10. I believe it will appear soon though because the oneric folder just showed up in bazaar. However for version control we don't use git we use bazaar. You can find that on the bazaar page. There you will find the package helpers (if a package has to be altered there is where it is done). Trisquel specific packages and the scripts that remove packages we don't include. You can also find more information on the devel mailing list. And lastly obviously any bugs/issues that are found are listed on the issues page
Aww crap... have to learn another version control system. Just when I thought I mastered Git. :-(
Check out this video here on how to do the BZR basic commands. It is a 20 minute long video but it gives you a decent grasp of the basic bzr commands.
You can count one more membership. Just signed up.
Can we get those translations? Maybe some of the non-English users will sign up!
:)
For those who are having a bit of difficultly finding the sign up page (it is well hidden): see https://trisquel.info/en/member
I think we have a ways to go still to reach 100. I counted about 50 although I didn't see the memberships that were recently added so maybe it is higher?
Last I heard names aren't automatically added to the list. I believe if you (and others) just signed up quidam has to manually add them to the list. Although I am not 100% sure on that.
I've just joined.
I'm also committing myself to increase my involvement outside of just posting in the forum/IRC.
I hope this is going to be a great year for Trisquel!
Trying to reshare this on Diaspora and Identi.ca. Guess it would be great if all of associate members do at least the same )

Anybody else having difficulties with Paypal while trying to become a
member? I've tried like 5-10 times with 3 different browsers and it
fails when the "Agree and Pay" button is clicked. From Paypal claim they
can't verify my card which I've used in the past with them, and just
last night I was able to add money to Flattr (via Moneybookers/Skrill)
with it. I have cookies enabled and I am able to login in my Paypal
account. Any suggestions?
Do you have some sort of javascript blocker like noscript running?
I would try try calling/emailing paypal in that case. Their contact page is here(assuming you are located in the USA).

Nope. One of the IceCat profiles I'm using is even only for payments and
has no extensions at all. The process fails with IceCat 3.6.16, Abrowser
9.0.1 and Epiphany 2.91.92. All have JavaScript and Cookies enabled. My
location is the EU.
Not sure about that then. That is odd. I would use their contact page (not the one I liked to but the EU one) and see if you can contact them bout it. It might be something on their side or maybe they can manually do it.
Just became a member too! I have been using trisquel for around 4 month and I am loving it so far. I have tried various other completely free distributions but trisquel by far blows them out of the water. That is why I want to invest in the future of this wonderful distribution.
I cannot wait to see Trisquel grow, and am looking forward to the next release.

You know what we need is better documentation. If you can't program or translate this would be a good thing to work on. Ideally we could write a book on Trisquel LTS releases.
What we need in particular is one that covers applications and configuring. Less technical users need very specific instructions and the applications can't be versions that are older or newer than the ones users are learning. Ideally though users shouldn't have to go to a book or documentation though which is why we have written a plug-in for firefox to help users navigate around sites. Conceptually and in practice it works well although not necessarily the code itself.
One of the things I am hoping to improve is that plug-in. Specifically the way it works is it redirects users who access sites that are hostile or unfriendly. This only works for the web although the same thing could be done for things like Microsoft Windows installation software or software on CD. Detecting this and directing users to free alternatives would help tremendously with user adoption.
