Let's talk the community backports project

As of today, I have a handful of PC components shipping to me so I can build my new PC. It has been a long time coming and one of the main reasons why I haven't contributed in the past. I've been rocking a very old 32-bit PC and have been running MATE in Trisquel 6 to keep the damn thing alive.

In building the PC, I have been making sure to follow the lists on h-node.org (like the Nvidia GT 430 card I got for $40) to make sure I have libre firmware out of the gate when I install 6.01 on it. It is tempting to install Ubuntu 14.04 on the new rig, but I will be sticking with the Trisquel release cycle even if its old.

So with that in mind, are you guys still thinking of doing the community backports project for Trisquel 6 and the upcoming 7? I ask because I have a handful of programs that I would like backported (like MongoDB 2.4.9) and tempted to give it a go on the new machine.

So what is the best plan? Should I create a launchpad PPA with the backported packages as a testing ground (and also offer to Ubuntu users) at first so if it works out then the packages get integrated into the official Trisquel project? The prospect of this is very appealing as I do a lot of server stuff as well and a fully featured backports project would be helpful.
