photo/video gallery for server

Any recommendations on a photo/video gallery to host images and videos that I might share on GNU Social? I imagine that ideally, the reader should open my images with his or her own software, but that seems slightly less convenient than hosting it in a gallery on my server. Does PHP and XML raise the issue that The JavaScript Trap article described?

Are there other issues that I should turn my mind to?
