A clean installation of Trisquel 8.0 shows Rhythmbox in the MATE panel as "Unnamed" instead of "Rhythmbox Music Player" as usual.
I have the same kind of issue, but I can't even find "Unnamed". Please describe step by step where you find it.
I can analyse the problem better if I have alacarte installed. In this case, when I access the desktop launcher for Rhythmbox, the text box for the program name is empty, so I guess that this "Unnamed" is a default string if this text box is empty. I wrote the name manually using alacarte and the issue disappeared.
The problem is that in /usr/share/applications/rhythmbox.desktop line 2 is
^_Name=Rhythmbox Music Player
instead of
Name=Rhythmbox Music Player
Remove the "^_" and the issue goes away.
Yes, that was the issue and now it is solved. It should be fixed, however, in Trisquel repo too, otherwise any clean installation will keep this mistake.
Is there a way for community members to submit patches? If so, I'd like to learn how, and since this issue seems like a very simple fix it might be a good opportunity to learn. If community members can submit patches, does anyone know where I should look to get started? Thanks.
This should have been fixed here: https://devel.trisquel.info/trisquel/package-helpers/commit/c1ae7c01443e52aace9945968f1ef6c51a27b149
To get started with the development, the easiest way is to read and follow this three links:
