Adfeno, Cyberhawk, and I worked on a new-user guide together. Adfeno and I were thinking of uploading it somewhere so that people could use it, and edit it if they like. I haven't talked to him in a few days, so I'm not sure where we are on that.

I thought of making an own some time ago;
Of course it is very good to share experiences and knowledge about free software / gnu linux, but I'm also very concerned about people who know very little about technical things and don't know how to free their computing / why it is necessary.

I'm encouraged by the interest here. Hope this can be a real collaborative effort. Just talking with my father about PRISM and Windows NS8 got his attention. We are so dependent on technology and very few of us really know what is going on.

Almost 20 years ago, The Linux Information Project started an education site. The format is clean and would work very well for a 'Trisquel Information Project' to which members could contribute anonymously.

If your proposed site would offer both private and public forum membership options, as well as a community blog, we will be glad to serve (pun intended).

The inability to manage settings on this current forum reminds one of facebook timeline, but with no controls. :-)

Many similar projects are ongoing from the 'old-geeks' groups. Remember COBOL, Unics, UNIX, and ARPANET? Don't fear anyone - just use their resources for good!

Originally I was thinking of a Wordpress blog on GNU/Linux in general but since I am closest to the Trisquel community and use it myself it might focus on that. I would also like to include general linux programming/scripting posts and maybe even general technology/society stuff. Right now the idea is just getting started but I have a domain www.g33kout.org. Things like a wiki, forum, etc. could be added easily. The main thing for me is we put together something a lot of people can use and contribute to. I mentioned above I have run blogs by myself and it was not very satisfying. So I hope we can put together a public, collaborative space.

Sure. How about we start brainstorming domain names? While I think the name is really cool you make a good point.

How about a Planet instead, which aggregates blogs?

As for the Wordpress blogs, I also have an account on wordpress.com, and I also contribute to two collaborative Wordpress blogs, and also have a personal blog.

I am indeed interested, but since I am attending high school (and will continue until 2017, if everything goes as expected), and also because I have other projects besides the blogs (including the making and translation of the user's guide for GNU+Linux Trisquel, the translations of Japanese comic books, the translations of European English comic strips, etc), it'll take some time until I can make some contribution to it.

I was thinking of something less specific than just free software or Trisquel and those issues would be just one aspect. What I am mostly interested in is a collaborative effort where people post different things related to tech, computing, science and even geeky pop culture things.

It would be fairly decentralized in that the anyone can sign up for an account and post without any else's approval. The only purpose of an admin is to maintain a consistency of look and feel, etc.

Whoever contributes could just do it at their leisure. For example, right now I'm working on a backup script based on duplicity and want to write articles about that and post the code, etc. I also have a project to setup a console only version of Trisquel on an old laptop I could write about.

The main point is the contributions would be original in the sense they reflect something the author did or an opinion on some issue related to GNU/Linux for example and not simply reposting articles from other sites.

Due to its organic nature it is also impossible to know exactly how it will grow but I'm really interested in the idea of a decentralized project and seeing where it would go.

I've set up a blog at www.g33kout.org. Anyone who signs up gets author status with the added feature you can manage categories.

I'm in the process of setting up an *unofficial* Trisquel Planet now on
my VPS. To avoid any confusion, I'll be noting that it is indeed
unofficial at the top of the page.

Wordpress blogs (and maybe others) allow you to "categorise" posts so
that it will generate feeds for each of those categories. It would be
nice if any bloggers who want to be in this unofficial planet could tag
their posts as "Trisquel" or similar to avoid filling it up with
non-Trisquel-related stuff.

Finally, I can also add g33kout.org feeds to the unofficial planet as
well. But it would be nice if there was a way of separating different
people's feeds. Maybe the best way is for each contributor to tag their
own posts with their own name? (I'm not a Wordpress guru). Then those
will appear in the Planet under that author's name.

I might start contacting some people with existing blogs to see if they
want to be added to the planet.

It's rather quiet at the moment. Anyone else got Trisquel-focused blog
feeds?

In the next week I'll prod quidam on IRC and see if he might consider
setting up the official Planet.
