Another "dark net" software. They keep coming up these days. I am still trying to understand Retroshare (how private it really is, how many people use it, and what content I could find there).
Truth is, any "dark net" that is not used by at least 100000 people is not really "worth it". Tor is the only "safe" system rigth now because of the amount of people that use it / relay it.
I know Zeronet has Tor support, but it is still young... We need a proper audit for it to be proven capable of not leaking.
Having said that, these days new techs are coming up and that's good. Tribler, Zeronet, Retroshare, I2P, etc... In a few years maybe some of them might stand tall and proud. Only time will tell.

Btw, can it be used in the Tor Browser? It is the most secure browser I know of, so I guess it would be nice to access Zeronet using that browser (which already has Tor support). Any idea??

"If you do decide to use Tor Browser (I started out using Chrome and then switched myself), you need to configure it once to allow direct access to your local host to make it work with ZeroNet. Preferences/Advanced/Network/Connection/Settings/No Proxy for -> enter 127.0.0.1" I saw this comment on a zeronet site.

the zeronet url is this: http://127.0.0.1:43110/Talk.ZeroNetwork.bit/?Topic:1_15ymkjUYJS6tjUC35AekGMExZMN6iks8ma/Want+to+use+TorBrowser+for+ZeroNet

Ok, first thanks for the info!
Second, that will probably not use the tor connection... It will allow to use the tor browser (which is very secure, good stuff there), but it won't use the "torified connection to Zeronet" if we can say that. Right?
Anyway, it's a good thing we can at least use the Tor Browser. I think the teams behind I2P, Zeronet, and others, should really make use of the work already done by the Tor Browser Team and release their own prepackaged browsers. I mean, supposedly Tor Browser prevents absolutely any non tor connection from happening inside it's own window, so having that being done to other anonymity networks should also work and be a security/privacy bonus. Right?

Btw you mention only the IP not the port

the port is 43110 and the software use the tor connection, you can enable very easy just 1 click in the default page.

Somehow I missed this thread.

> that will probably not use the tor connection

Sure it won't. That will only allow you to use zeronet with the TorBB. To force all connections through tor, install tor (sudo apt install tor), edit /etc/tor/torrc commenting out the lines ControlPort 9051 and CookieAuthentication 1.

sudo /etc/init.d/tor restart
sudo usermod -a -G debian-tor [yourlinuxusername]

logout/restart the machine

Execute Zeronet, open your TorBB, allow in noscript the localhost (127.0.0.1) and enter the url http://127.0.0.1:43110/ and set in there "always use tor". Close The TorBB, kill the zeronet process and restart it.

I know there is already a torrent site named : Play, which is accessible after installation of zeronet.

I'm sure this has good intentions, but the reality is that this will be used for child pornography.

Tor is used for that today. Something always will be. Just because a tool is useful for illegal or immoral activities doesn't mean the tool itself is bad.

Obviously. You can use MP3/FLAC for your personal work or for copyrighted materials. It is not the fault of the format and more of how you use it.

I'm going to see how Zeronet turns out and how it is actually used. If it is used for the common good, then humanity isn't totally fucked up by default. If it is used for illicit purposes, then that's the stigma these decentralized networks are going to be stuck with.

ZeroNet Has some similarities with
twister is the fully decentralized P2P microblogging platform leveraging from the free software implementations of Bitcoin and BitTorrent protocols.

Another is Syndie
https://www.syndie.de/features.html
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Syndie

Syndie operates in a manner similar to blogs, newsgroups, forums, and other content tools; it allows one or more authors to privately or publicly post messages. Messages are pushed and pulled to and from archive servers (other peers that choose to be), which are hosted in a variety of anonymous and non-anonymous locations.

Most archive servers are HTTP archives hosted inside the I2P network, but there are syndie archives in Freenet as well as the normal internet

Although might have closer look into the Licenses as is "multiple"
Public domain, BSD license, GNU General Public License, MIT license, Artistic License

...aaaaaaaaaaaand back to Bulletin Boards, UseNet, and FideNet, we've come full circle in a way, but now we actually have the technology (FreeNet, TOR, BitTorrent, BlockChain etc) to make it work more efficiently.

ZeroNet is programmed in Python and licensed under GPLv2 (no "or later"). Doesn't appear to depend on any non-free software at first glance. Manual installation instructions for
Trisquel 7 are here:
https://miguelmenendez.pro/en/articles/install-use-zeronet-trisquel-belenos.html

and for Debian here:
https://zeronet.readthedocs.io/en/latest/using_zeronet/installing/

Would be keen to hear reviews and impressions for anyone who's used it, and if it's any good, would be good to have it in Trisquel repos.
