Guys you can know why ekiga (software) is present in the repstory Trisquel but requires "libcapi20-3". Why not make available/installable "libcapi20-3?" Currently you can not install on Trisquel ekiga for this reason.

Hi, Calippo!

I can't help you with your question, but I wanted to install and run Ekiga, too. It is part of the Gnome suite, if that is how you refer to it, I believe. When i tried to install it, I was informed that Ekiga conflicted with some already installed software and stuff would have to be removed, so I didn't install it.

I would like to get it going, though. I tried Linphone, but haven't been able to get other people to use that succesfully yet.

The libcapi20-3 package has licensing issues, so it was removed from
Trisquel. I've submitted a bug report [1] about that package, but no
real solutions yet. I've come up with a work-around which is to get the
package from another distribution as explained in the bug-report. This
happened before I knew the reason why libcapi20-3 is missing in
Trisquel. Using the work-around you will install potentially non-free
software on you system, as some parts of the source code of libcapi20-3
are with unclear copyright holders and/or licenses. AFAIK the package
provides ISDN API to other packages. I don't have ISDN connectivity, so
it actually does not affect me. For me the work-around is the only way
to have a working system at all.

I'm no sure I understand. Ekiga is free software. It does not directly
depend on libpcapi20-3, but one of its dependencies, libopal3.10.2
does.libpcapi20-3 is (attempts to be) free software but has license
and/or copyright holder issues that prevents it to be in Trisquel.

And yet Ekiga works perfectly in Trisquel 5.0 (version 3.2.7-2ubuntu2). Why is this?

I'd love to install ekiga too. Is there anything we can do? Do we have to wait for Ubuntu to get the fix from Debian or can we get it from Debian directly?

There are other free SIP clients such as Twinkle and Linphone.

Yes aloniv, thank you, I'll try one or both. I do have some credit still in my Ekiga "account" though, and would like to be able to use that.

You should be able to log into your ekiga.net account with any sip phone
client; I've done this with linphone.
