Should I wait for Trisquel 8?
I recently downloaded Trisquel 7 in an attempt to brake free. Much works great, but I still have some issues (panels, resolution, wireless, Evolution email). Now I understand Trisquel 8 is on the way. Should I perhaps wait for that release instead of using time finding fixes for my Trisquel 7? Is installing a fresh Trisquel 8 better than upgrading from Trisquel 7?
If you're having issues with wireless, this could mean that your wireless card requires non-free firmware. If that's the case, these problems will probably probably persist with Trisquel 8.
If your graphical issues are due to your graphics card, that could mean the same thing as with the wireless card-- thanks, proprietary fw.
Would you mine giving us the output of "lspci | grep Network" and "lspci | grep Graphics"?
I guess they're non-free.
04:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4331 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 02)
I don't get anything using Graphics, but found this:
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 650M Mac Edition] (rev a1)
According to specs, there should also be an integrated graphics card, but I couldn't find it in the lspci list:
Intel HD Graphics 4000
Screen works quite good though. Does that mean there is free firmware that can run it?
I can't see wireless at all in Network.
You usually have to physically remove any existing video card to gain access to an integrated graphics controller. It should be relatively easy to do; just open up the computer and remove it from the slot it's in.
Ah, that explains it. Unfortunately this is a laptop that I don't dare to open. I'll have to stick to the current one then.
We may have to wait a couple of months before Trisquel 8 is released. You had better fix your problems and upgrade to Trisquel 8 when available. I always upgrade and it perfectly works.
Trisquel's Xfce is pretty old. Version 4.12 has built-in hiDPI themes.

There's a PPA.
