This is the first development release of the 4.0 branch, based in
Ubuntu 10.04. As it is a LTS release we are starting our development
cycle earlier, in order have the final version ready for the summer.

By now, the beta desktop Live CD and the netinstall images are
available[1], as well as the first Trisquel mini beta image. They are
all available in 32 and 64 bit flavours. They all have the 3.5 artwork.

The 4.0 branch will also feature the Edu and Pro editions, a server
oriented environment, the Sugar TOAST[2] system, and a Gamer edition.

You can help us by testing the beta images and reporting[3] any bugs.
We need feedback on the usability and hardware support, especially for
the following pieces:

* Nvidia cards should now be supported (although with no 3D) by Nouveau
* We are including the Radeon driver in the current betas, but since we
removed the non-free stuff from it, we need to test the results.
* Atheros and B43 wifi drivers reliability needs to be tested.
* So does the console framebuffer support.

Great work guys. Trying out regular version now, and mini soon. Looking forward to seeing the stable release soon. But right now I am using this version until the new release as this release is amazing!

Superb, Quidam!

I'm downloading the 4.0 main beta and will test it. Expect bug reports soon.

Also, I will download the latest Mini 4.0 image and see which bugs still remain.

Beta-mini worked fine with an older ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 IGP (also dualhead out of the box). I will try to download and test this weekend on a laptop using a Mobility Radeon HD 3400. Is it supposed that testing with live CD will provide the same results as installing on HD? I could test with live CD only on a laptop with a Radeon HD 4500. I can advance that Xorg ATI driver provided in Trisquel 3.5 did not work properly on the 4500 (the fan worked at full speed all the time, an issue reported with some ATI cards on Xorg page).

I use my Trisquel with fluxbox but the trisquel-mini_4.0-BETA is really fast, I have no doubt what distro flavor I'll use next.

Anyone care to share some eye candy from the beta? I'm suffering from "OS install fatigue" at the moment ....

The beta still has the same art, for the most part. That will soon change, of course.
