Hi again to all, fellows:

Does anyone tried to play a video from YouTube via Browser/LinternaMagica or even using SMPlayer in streaming ? ... Seems like YouTube has upgrade its Flash version... Anyone knows a workaround to this handicap without renounce to *our* freedom?

PS: It worked until just today. (!?)

I have encountered the same issue, LinternaMagica doesn’t seem to work and the Greasemonkey script "Another YouTube Downloader" either.
Gnash however seems to work.

Hi, all!

I'm another frustrated linterna magica user, trying to get youtube
videos to play in gnash player. The videos do not start automatically.
Is this a known issue? I have to manually hit 'click to play', which
I cannot do, since it is inaccessible to someone who needs the Orca
screen reader; I'm blind, and need this tool. In the manual for Gnash,
the settings 'StartStopped' and 'EnableExtensions' are mentioned. In
~/.gnashrc I set StartStopped to 'off' and 'EnableExtensions to 'on'.
This doesn't seem to make Gnash start playing automatically, as the
manual suggests it should do.

Any ideas?

Dave,

would it be acceptable to start the youtube video playing outside the browser ? I mean like copying over the video URL to a input box ?

I could imagine a small four liner script which lets you paste youtube URL into a Zenity inputbox, then use youtube-dl to download the video to your temp folder and start the video after download with mplayer.

Let me know if this is of interest.

Are you sure it is not a protection from the browser ? I've found the same problem but only with Abrowser (at least on trisquel). When I tried to load a youtube video on any other Ditribution (even Parabola) with Firefox, Chrome, Rekonq, Konqueror, Midori etc... I never saw the "Click to Play" button :S...

Right-click on the "Flash space", choose Edit/Preferences and, in the "Player" tab, choose not to start the player in "pause" mode.

I'm using Linterna Magica version 0.0.12-1 (according to the source). Howsoever I installed it automatic updates happen. I'm also in the Youtube HTML5 'trial.' Gnash is disabled.

I can watch what I used to be able to watch (i.e. are in my subscriptions) including stuff that uses the Youtube Flash method. I've also tried random other videos without problems.

I'm sorry I can't be any more helpful than to say it works for me.

Ah, of course, I'm using Triskel so I'm using the Xine Plugin for my video not Totem. Try installing package xine-plugin.

Hi,

I'm using Trisquel 5.5; installed xine-plugin; disabled gnash;
re-enabled greasemonkey/linternamagica, and my subscription videos that
have html5 option play as they should, since I'm in the html5 trial.
For other videos in my subscriptions, the linternamagica insertion
shows, but nothing plays. I may have to try some youtube-dl option or
use the mobile sight. Movie player opens on the mobile site, with the
audio monaural and of horrible quality.

I've just wrapped up a trying to workout why there was a random
selection of YouTube Flash videos that worked for me and testing later
on many that did not. Then I cleared mine and Squid's caches... Sorry
to mislead you.

The annoying thing about this is that Linterna Mágica is often
correctly showing the availability of a WebM format video when YouTube
is still presenting someone on the HTML5 trial with a Flash player.

You should report bugs to the maintainers of the given program. I just did that, even thought I don't use Linterna. Ivaylo will most probably take care of the bug soon.

Youtube isn't working, because they changed they way it works. I doubt they warned Ivaylo beforehand, so he could avoid this issue with Linterna.

I'll do my best as soon as possible, hopefully until the end of the next
week. I was just unavailable due to very personal reasons to comment and
work on the issue.

The code of Linterna Mágica is now fixed in the SVN repository. Both
trunk and stable branch (0.0.12). The svn builds are updated. The
stable one is with version 0.0.12-2, for which I will release a
tarball tonight or tomorrow. If there are still issues, please send
comments in the bug report. [1] Thanks.

Minitube still works. The latest svn of SMPlayer should work too.

JDownloader.org is reliable. Knows about webm too.
Codec is software implementation. Format is the standard.

Unfortunately, JDownloader is not free software as it includes some non-free code.

So they have a proprietary format (dlc). I guess there software for that
proprietary format is proprietary? If so, what needs to be removed to
make it free? Will deleting some files make it free or does it need a
big modification?

Don't know but there are free alternatives to JDownloader such as FatRat and Tucan Manager.

Just tested svn of SMPlayer (from Arch user repositories as it isn't in Parabola's repositories) and YouTube works fine.
