Trisquel 9 Etiona
There's a new ISO available (2020-06-07).
http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso-etiona/iso/
http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso-etiona/iso/trisquel_9.0_amd64.iso
This ISO includes a new wallpaper, presumably the first glimpse at the default artwork for Etiona.

Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to test Trisquel 9.
Still no HTTPS?
But I have just tested Trisquel 9 indirectly, by downloading Uruk 3.0 alpha image from SourceForge.
Congratulations. This time I could try it safely.
I tried Uruk 3.0 alpha recently, but couldn't access Uruk's main repository.
It's beautiful!

Great! thanks for sharing...
some questions please:
1- When we should upgrade to version 9? I'm comfortable with version 8 right now. so how long can I use old version?
2- When will the mini version be available. (I only use Mini version)
3- How can I upgrade to version 9? Do I need only to delete the current version and download and install new version.
Is it possible to update with this command:
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
- You can wait for the official release or you can upgrade now;
- http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso-etiona/iso/ includes ISOs of Trisquel Mini;
- Instead of a fresh install, you can upgrade now from Trisquel 8:
$ sudo sed -i 's/flidas/etiona/' /etc/apt/sources.list && sudo apt update && sudo apt full-upgrade
I am currently typing from the latest live ISO. It apparently works perfectly. Beside the new wallpaper, I noticed:
- the Synaptic Package Manager (it was not in the previous ISO I tested, if I remember well), in System/Administration;
- PDF-Shuffler, a nice addition in my humble opinion;
- Jami, for secured and distributed communication;
- Back in Time will apparently replace Déjà Dup (in Trisquel 8) as the default backup system (it was already in previous ISOs of Etiona).
@Magic_Banana You help me a lot :) thank you so much...

Thank you, lcerf! I didn't test it yet so this is valuable to me.
I've been using Trisquel 9 for some weeks and it works like a charm. Thanks to everyone involved in this project.
It took me 3 days to download the image file. The pre-release work perfectly either on bare-metal or virtual machine.
I appreciate Trisquel community. Yet still, I'd like to use a (semi-)rolling distribution like Debian testing/unstable.
> I'd like to use a (semi-)rolling distribution like Debian testing/unstable.
AFAIK you can use Debian Testing in full software freedom, as long as you don't turn on any of the nonfree repos.
Except for the areas with no warning that people accidentally fall into. One example is that Debian makes no effort to steer people to only free browser add-ons. Pop open the browser, end up at the default location, and grab non-free ones without even knowing. I've talked to people that had no idea their add-ons were non-free after I pointed that out. This is only 1 example. Even with something like Debian it's still necessary to keep the shields up.
Is the image for June 16 just for testing?
Why are there two images? One at 2G an another one further down at 2.5G
I tried to install the 2G image. It goes through the motions and I get a message something along the line of 'remove your installation disk and reboot.
When I reboot the computer just blinks and nothing happens.
Can someone tell me how do I get trisquel 9 installed properly so this computer can start.
I installed Trisquel 9 with the latest image which is June 16. I downloaded the trisquel 9 amd64 2.5GB iso. Which works like a charm. So maybe the 2G image is bugged or something? At least the 2.5GB one works [at least for me it does].
triskel and trisquel (notice the spelling difference) provide different sets of default packages. Mainly, triskel comes with the KDE desktop environment and trisquel with the MATE desktop environment. You can have the full list of packages in any ISO by reading the file with the same URL plus the suffix ".manifest".
Thanks for the info.
I'm right on it like a cheap suit.
Thanks again.
Thanks Magic Bananna for the explanation.
Now I can see the two names.
I was still not able to install. Trisquel 9 at 2.5G
My system is old and has the following especs:
Graphics card: Mesa DRI Intel(R)
Sandybridge Mobile
Intel Open Source Technology Center 3.3 (Core Profile)
Mesa 18.0.5
Maybe that is why I'm not able to install Trisquel 9

If it's old, have you checked it's not a 32-bit system? The amd64 ISOs will not work on 32-bit system. Does Trisquel 8 work on the same system?
I only brought my 32-bit laptop on my holiday to Aotearoa, and due to the pandemic I am now stuck here for the foreseeable future, unable to access my 64-bit laptop in China. Please let me know when 32-bit ISOs are available for testing.
FYI I still have a dual boot of Etiona on Bishop, upgraded from a fresh install of Flidas. I haven't stress tested it much but yet, but I have been periodically logging in and applying system updates, and it seems to be working OK so far.
I got it working using the Finland HTTPS download. I was just peeking the next level kernel images. Is the Libre Linux 5.0 kernel in the synaptic packages stable and being updated/worked on?
I am having a problem, Locking the screen works, but plugging back the monitor in the Desktop after 30 mins or so it is open desktop screen without a password login......
And than it won't lock the screen again, no matter how many times click lock screen button.
It is a fixed open desktop. It seems to lock and unlock for short periods. But after away for say 30 mins it will be unlocked and will not lock again until reboot the computer.
This seems like a recurring problem as it starts again after every boot/reboot.
Any idea of a fix?
Have you looked at the power management preferences, in the "Control Center"? Your computer is probably put to sleep when inactive for 30 minutes. You can set it to "Never" to avoid the problem.
Thanks Mr. Banana! No luck however, The default is still set to never.
If it was put to sleep however, it should still be "Locked", at least I think it would.
It is the locking part that is failing somewhere.
It was running for a day since I last posted, and it was open/unlocked when I got on here to post this. But yesterday after my first post, it actually was locked once when I came back after 5 mins after it was unlocked with me not doing anything. I know it is confusing but it so random maybe it is malware?
Or would it be a bug?
It still does not accept Manual locking the desktop either. It will once first booted however. But it will fail also and be unlocked after 20-30 mins.
You know the Trisquel Icon and clicking LOCK SCREEN does not work at all.
Anything relevant in the "Screensaver Preferences"? As far as I understand, the display manager is responsible for locking the screen. In Trisquel 7, I had to install GDM to get that feature working with GNOME Shell. As far as I remember, the related button was not even present in GNOME Shell's menu, before I switched from LightDM to GDM. So, you could try to install and use GDM and see if it makes a difference.
I installed GDM3 and switched the LightDM to GDM, after rebooting the computer it still does it.
I think I might have Zeroed in the program I am running might be affecting the lock. Although it should not. I have so far got everything locked without a problem and unlock at will, with the program not running that I want to run 24/7.
Strypey
Sorry for the Delay in getting back to you but everytime I come into the Trisquel.info forum I have to send a request for a new password. Maybe something the admins can look into.
It's a 64bit computer and I finally got it to work
Thanks to Magic Bananna I can now tell that I'm enjoying triskel 9 and not trisquel 9 from which I'm writing this post
I followed the instructions from Malsasa from a previous question I posted 'Trisquel 9 not booting once installed':
For reinstalling GRUB bootloader, there is my favorite article from
HTG here https://www.howtogeek.com/114884/how-to-repair-grub2-when-ubuntu-wont-boot.
Simply follow the command line section there so you do not need to
install anything. I always give this to everybody asking about their
bootloader needs to be repaired.
The one lcerf pointed out above is great (thank you!) but the HTG's is
far more simpler.
Hope they get the 32bit version out soon for you!!
Thanks nadebula1984,
Uruk finally solved my M.2 drive install issues using Trisquel.
It works awesome too......Uruk 3.0 based on Trisquel 9 download
Not sure if anyone's posted it yet but there's a Netinstall already!
http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso-etiona/iso/trisquel-netinst_9.0-20200719_amd64.iso
http://jenkins.trisquel.info/makeiso-etiona/iso/trisquel-netinst_9.0-20200719_i686.iso
That's a good catch. I see no checksum files for the netinst ISOs.
Hmmm ... you're right. Maybe someone form the Dev team can put the checksums in
Hello all,
I just updated a Development page and added relevant links (fresh iso images, bug reports, open issues):

Also you can find this page from Main page -> Documentation go page down, choose Development
Great stuff rakubx, thanks :)
I'm trying to download the latest i686 images of Etiona. I didn't see there was a torrent so I went for a HTTP download. After about 8 hours, it was almost downloaded, then failed, and now refuses to retry. I downloaded the torrent, but there are no peers and it's not downloading anything. Help?
> After about 8 hours, it was almost downloaded, then failed, and now refuses to retry.
For large downloads I recommend using wget, so that if this happens you can use wget's "-c" option to continue the download where you left off.
> I downloaded the torrent, but there are no peers and it's not downloading anything.
The torrent will probably only be functional for the official Etiona release in 2024.
@chaosmonk > The torrent will probably only be functional for the official Etiona release in 2024.
That's a very aggressive release schedule. Doesn't sound realistic though. 2026 at the earliest.
>That's a very aggressive release schedule. Doesn't sound realistic though. 2026 at the earliest.
I hope you folks are joking. The base for Flidas reaches EOL next year. If Etiona isn't officially released by then, there won't be an official Trisquel release with security support. So if Etiona isn't shipped by the end of this year, we all better start looking for a new distro to use :(
Chaosmonk:

Is it possible to leave those out of the download pages until they do work?
Maybe, if you ask quidam. The torrents get dumped there automatically by the makeiso script,[1] so he would just need to tweak it so it doesn't do that. In theory I think the torrents should work, I just doubt many people are downloading let alone seeding the beta releases.

Even if nobody else is seeding the torrent, it would usually still download using a webseed. If it's working for others, it's possible the problem is with my torrent client (or my old hardware, the OS, local network etc).
> Even if nobody else is seeding the torrent, it would usually still download using a webseed.
Ok, then I don't know why it isn't working. In any case, only quidam can fix it and he does not read this forum, so discussing it here is a waste of time.
Hello! Please help! I try to install Trisquel 9 Etonia 64bit on Desktop with GUI installation guide as usual, and it hangs at Removing localuser-data(amd64), both mouse and keyboard does not answer, everything just hangs. CPU and RAM are next to omnipotent. Thank you.
I decided probably system tried to install itself on wrong device (for example on installation USB) and pressed power button. But when I powered comp again, there was strange watered screen as if smth went wrong, then there came LUKS and Trisquel 9 fully installed wonderfully working as if everything went smooth. Now I wonder whether it was installed right or wrong. Should I reinstall it or is there any diagnostics that I could do? Thank you.
Assuming you installed the "default edition" (with the MATE desktop), are "trisquel" and "trisquel-recommended" installed? If so, you should have all packages from the default install.
Yes they both are installed. Also I already compiled a lot of things from source and everything went smooth. (I just don't understand how it can be: CPU horrifically powerful, totally new kernel, and still 100% used when building certain programs...)
Just it always say everywhere before and after LUKS screen "this not found that not found" "firmware this firmware that" "firmware bug" etc. looks like normal free software behavior. Hope it does not affect the performance of CPU?
People. I installed on Desktop Etiona 9 64bit. And it hangs when inactive (something inside the comp thinks that it is inactive but there are process and programs running, only mouse and keyboard are inactive).
In all my old laptops I have no such problem with Etiona 9 while I had it everywhere with Flidas 8. But this new Desktop has this special sleep paralysis with Etiona 9. Libre kernel is newest.
Who knows is this hardware problem or system problem and how to solve it? Thanks.
(There are a lot of things that are "not found please contact your BIOS support" displayed when loading OS. Not sure whether it is connected but I think it is how free software normally runs on this hardware)
