trouble with exaile install

Exaile shows up in add/remove programs, but stalls when you try to click the checkbox to install. Using synaptic, it looks like it's not in the repositories at all. There is a PPA on launchpad, but that version is pretty dated. Their website says they don't provide binaries, and that it will be in the repositories for most distributions. Is there a way to get the current version (3.4.2) without compiling from source?

I've opened https://trisquel.info/en/issues/12811 to establish why Exaile isn't in the Belenos repos. With the new release and new build and contribution systems it could have just fallen through the cracks. If that's the case then sometime after the new build and contribution system is fully functional Exaile 3.3.2 will appear in the repos.

If you're happy with that release then you can download the Ubuntu package from here

http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/exaile

And install it with gdebi thus

sudo apt-get install gdebi
sudo gdebi ~/Downloads/exaile_3.3.2-1_all.deb

All the Trisquel modifications do is change a few defaults, so your freedom isn't at risk.

If, however, you want the very latest release - then you'll have to use the source.

You can add Trisquel 6' repository to /etc/apt/sources.list (by adding a line there
"deb http://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel toutatis main",

then update the repositories (sudo apt-get update), install exaile, and then disable the repository (by commenting/adding a "#" at the start of the just-created line, or by deleting it), then updating the repositories again. I don't know how new Exaile is there, though.
