hello all,
My name is Mauro Serenello, I did inform you that I started in Italy a business specializing in mini computers with low power consumption, little dimension and use of free software called green computer.
We install gnu linux distributions only with priority to Trisquel.
We also have a service trashware and donation of refurbished computers to schools.
I enrolled as an associate member, I hope I can be of help to spread this wonderful and pure distribution as free software in general and the spirit of free sharing of knowledge.
Thanks to hospitality and sorry for my bad English.

You made another typo. The correct URL appears to be:

http://www.greencomputer.it/

Thanks sirGrant,
I hope I can be of help, the Italian market is certainly small, and now in big difficulty, but the spaces for free software are huge and for me still all to be explored.

thanks again

Hello,

for one, I think the site should also be in english, if there is and I couldn't find the link I apologise.

Another thing is that it's not very clear, at least to me, if you ship worldwide.

I would also want to see more options, the "Eco" is very tempting for a WiFi file server, the others not so much.

Thanks, I appreciate very much your notes.
for the moment we cover only the Italian market by the beginning of next year is expected to translate in english and other languages the entire site and the possibility of sale around the world.
We are currently concluding the possible partnership with some extra europeans countries.

By that time we will certainly also a greater choice of models and options.

Again many thanks

Mauro

Thanks Lev,
I strongly believe in free software, and the necessity for its purity, i am forced to give alternatives to Trisquel (but always Gnu Linux) because not all users accept minor problems or limitations that may cause this choice but believe me, i make the best to spread trisquel, I make extra discounts to those who ask me to install Trisquel
You think that initially we began to install proprietary operating systems as option. after a while, we began to receive some threats where I was asked to remove the free software from my company, of course I did the exact opposite!
will be a pleasure for me, as soon as we start deploying throughout the world, prepare an offer and especially dedicated to you.

thanks again for your warm welcome and sorry to all, my english is disgraceful, my daughter Simona will be the manager for international dealer, speak fluently in english and discreetly in spanish.

bye

Using the Linux-libre kernel (in every 100% free GNU/Linux system such as Trisquel) would not bring "minor problems or limitations" if you carefully choose the hardware to sell (what also incentives the manufacturers to propose freedom-friendly devices). Take a look at what Chris does with ThinkPenguin.

Thanks MagicBanana You're right and I thank you for the note.
You must however consider that I, as a manufacturer, are absolutely capable of providing a system fully compatible with free software and the customer will be fully satisfied.
but if one day he went into a shop to buy a usb wifi and this will not work (as is likely) the customer will experience what I call "minor problems or limitations."
I think that nobody can make objections about this.

bye

If you are not going to support the systems properly don't do it at all.

Supporting free software is much easier from a customer relations stand point. While you are going to encounter issues with free software they are going to be noticed immediately. Users will have the opportunity to call you and inquire about why some product you didn't sell them doesn't work. At which point you can explain freedom and direct them to something that does. At this point they have an opportunity to return the other product. With the distributions that include non-free software you don't have that opportunity. They are stuck with the hardware that worked for a while. This is much more worse. You and "Linux" will get the blame. You have literally sold your customer a defective product.

I would focus on cell phones if I were you. Or maybe tablets. Both are going to be difficult markets to enter although they will be markets with more opportunity. The computer market is a difficult one to enter because prices are VERY competitive. The size of the market is also in decline. If I didn’t think we could do a better job than our competitors I'd never have started ThinkPenguin. I followed the market for years, worked in the industry at various points (technical positions/development, retail, competitors, etc), and understand the various issues holding “Linux” and free software back. Even with all that we have done so far there is a long ways to go before I'll be satisfied. It's going to take a lot of different massive investments to really do a proper job. I'm hoping we will have out at least one product within the year that I'll truly be satisfied with. It's taken years though to get to this point.
