I too was wondering this after seeing a Linus Tech Tips video on the topic, then I realised that a Core 2 Duo from 2008 and no GPU is gonna make no difference.

BTW Trisquel 8 is based on 16.04 not 18.04, you're thinking of 9. Also sweet 16-core rig you have there :)

Oops, I had a mind lapse for a second there regarding the versioning. They should hurry up as Ubuntu 20.04 comes out next month!

As for the CPU, I built a new dev machine with a Ryzen 3700X back in July.

Does that CPU also not suffer from the same fate as Intel ME (except the AMD version I don't know it's name)?

Thank you, I am glad to see scientific stuffs related to Trisquel. And
your Reddit thread is great!

Thank you very much for sharing such "scientific stuff", though we cannot access it from China.

I thought Folding@Home was proprietary.

Caleb, thanks for pointing that out: https://foldingathome.org/faqs/project-details/dont-post-source-code/

"Most of the critical parts of FAH are publicly available. The Tinker and Gromacs source codes can be downloaded and run. Unlike many computer projects, the paramount concern is not functionality, but the scientific integrity, and posting the source code in a way that would allow people to reverse engineer the code to produce bogus scientific results would make the whole project pointless. However, we stress that the vast majority of our code is already open source. We have an Open Source FAQ with more details."

So even if the software was GPLv3, he still wouldn't want people looking at the code and potentially improving it. Interesting.

You're welcome. I used Folding@Home on m PS3 when I was eleven, and I
wanted to use it on my computers when I was idle, but I was disappointed
to find out it was proprietary.
