It is the code that was released by Lemaker, this ChrisP guy decided to publish a copy in github. The fact that we have the source for it, means that it is all free? 3d graphics?
BananaPi requires nonfree firmware. See: https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers
I just had a look at /android/hardware/broadcom/wlan/firmware
and there are a lot of .bin's and no source.
So yeah i guess the blobs are included :(
Thanks. That is the kind of analysis that I didn't know how to do, but felt was needed. Thanks for the heads up. I will focus on linux distros that are based on GNU and not Android.
Well, the problem isn't fundamentally with Android. The same blob would be required on a GNU/Linux system for this device.
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Android anyway; I've used it before on the Pandora, and I found it to be resource-hungry and esoteric. Given the choice, I would choose GNU/Linux every time. But there isn't an ethical problem with completely libre versions of Android, like Replicant. :)
