Back to Trisquel 9 (again?)

Since i've finished some projects as a audio engineer i can finally switch again to a non Windows/macOS system.
Currently i'm studying pentesting and i would need to use some tools like Burp Suite/Metasploit etc so my first question is:
- Do you recommend run Kali or Parrot Os into a VM(Virtualbox???) or there is a way to install all these pentesting tools in Trisquel 9 like Katoolin(for Debian)?.
- Also i have the following tasks to do:
Ditch Facebook,Linkedin for Mastodon
Ditch Google search for SearX
Backup all Gmail/Outlook emails(Thunderbird?) and create a Tutanota account
Use Brave/Firefox/Tor Browser instead of Google Chrome
I also have a Samsung S2 with Replicant 6 with Briar instead of Whatsapp/Viber/Telegram.
As Hardware i currently have a Lenovo T420 but i may consider revert back to a X60/X60s which is easy to Libreboot(software method).
Is there something i'm missing?
Any recommendation would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Nice to hear you back to Trisquel 9 again, my friend. However, I am
interested on your news about being an audio engineer. I just
encountered LibreAV today.

LibreAV
"Libreav.org is an evolving hub of software details and aggregated
release updates on FOSS for audio, visual and related software."
https://libreav.org

I apologize for not answering your main concern about security tools.

Nice! I've never heard about LibreAV.Seems like a collection of FLOSS tools and plugins.
I've tried AVLinux MX Edition few weeks ago.Seems very powerful but still has some proprietary software like Reaper 6 and some Windows VST plugins.
I would love to see a build based on Trisquel with a RT/Lowlatency kernel with only free software.I think there was GNU/Musix in the past and Dyne:Bolic...would be nice to have a Libre distro focused on multimedia, tips are welcome.

If you want to virtualize, look into KVM. Virtualbox is having freedom issues.

Also, beware of trying to virtualize on a librebooted x60. You will be dissapointed with the performance, it's abysimal and barely enough to use any kind of GUI inside the VM. A CLI environment is more feasible.

Most usable option IMHO is a core2duo/quad system. Some motherboards don't support hardware accelerated virtual machines, beware.

However, to my knowledge, you can't libreboot such a setup... So it is a slightly compromised machine in comparison to a librebooted device...

If I missed something and virtualization (with good performance) is possible on librebooted hardware, I'll be happy to stand corrected.

I've just installed Trisquel 9 on my desktop (i5-4590).
Also i've installed the virt-manager package and got Kali running flawlessly.
Yes if i recall correctly i've read somewhere that was some issue with Libreboot and virtualization so maybe better keep the desktop and the T420 which has been updated unofficially with a quad core CPU/16Gb ram so lots resources available.
If there's some reliable solution for a Librebooted laptop that can handle virtualization i would be happy to make the jump.
Thank you for your message!

T420 is perfectly supported by coreboot (bloblessly). It is fairly hard to disassemble, though.

If you insist on purchasing an X60, I strongly recommended that you choose one with a 64-bit processor (albeit the maximum memory is 3 GiB) with VT-x support: T5600 or T7200 for X60 and L7400 for X60s and X60t. Please note that if you purchase an X60 with original BIOS, you still need to disassemble it first, because the SPI flash is locked by ME.

Thank you for your message.
I really miss the 4:3 screen of the X60/s but the ones with CPUs you metintioned are really difficult to find out.
Also are you sure that i would need to dissasemble the X60?
I've installed Libreboot on Trisquel 7 few years ago through command line.

There are also X200 laptops, afaik always with 64bit CPUs. I don't think they have VT-x support though, at least I can't enable it on mine.
