Can you send/receive text messages with IceDove? [Thunderbird Chat]

Hello everyone,
Alas, this may be a function that has somewhat passed away.
But some time ago, Mozilla added the functionality to send [Instant Messages](https://www.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mozilla_Thunderbird#Other_features) within its Thunderbird client.
At the time, several extensions existed to add support for additional protocols.
As of late, I have stopped utilizing cellular machines and am instead utilizing a USB modem for my cellular activities and am hoping that some of these functionalities still exists in newer editions.
TLDR; Are any extensions for adding SMS functionality to IceDove still maintained?
Thank you so much for any help you may be able to provide.
Trisquel's Icedove has a few chat options IRC, Matrix, and XMPP like it says about Thunderbird in Wikipedia.
You can also send SMS via e-mail within US and Canada. I've done so once. You just need to know which network the cell number has, the number, and the sms gateway domain.
I see that chatty is in Trisquel repositories, you may try it (but rather after you have repartitionned).
At lower level, I understand that many modems support the QMI interface. If it is the case of yours, information at https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/ThinkPad_mobile_Internet may be somehow relevant, to the extent that the tools mentioned are in Trisquel repositories.
If you have an interface that supports AT commands, what is described at https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/advanced/sms-from-shell might work.
