connect the web forum for this list to libreplanet instead?

why did a new mailing list need to be created for this topic? - the libre-planet mailing list is also "A place to discuss free software, free culture, online privacy and related topics." and has many subscribers that share the same concerns and may not be using the trisquel forum - we should want it to be THE place; but it is not used nearly as much as it should be -

i suspect that most people posting to this list are not using email but the web interface; so that could bridge the users of those two disperate venues rather than splintering, and would probably be minimal inconvenience to users

as far as i know, the libreplanet list requires fsf membership, this forum does not.

its a long time since i checked on this, i may have dreamt it. i do believe that there is such a list, and i also think it is the libreplanet one. but of the latter im less certain.

The list was created because this is standard practice when a new board is created on the Trisquel forums. The "general free software talk" board was created because there was a need to allow the Trisquel-users forum to be focused on answering questions from Trisquels users (especially newbies) and helping us solve problems we encounter using the distro. But also a desire not to suppress the wider discussion of what free code software, free network services etc to use with Trisquel, that had been somewhat overwhelming Trisquel-users, and interfering with that helpdesk function.

This certainly describes my use pattern.

Sounds fine to me. So long as membership of the LibrePlanet list doesn't require a paid membership to the FSF, as freemedia suggests it might. One of the goals of the Trisquel community is to be an accessible portal for users who are new to the software freedom movement. Even though I'm sure we'd all encourage anyone to become a financial members of the FSF, making this payment a condition of entry would harm our ability to server as an easily accessible portal.

i found the members only forum: https://www.fsf.org/associate/about-the-members-forum

if this is separate from the libreplanet mailing list, apologies for the mixup. any fsf member should be able to login to that and confirm whether it is the libreplanet mailing list or something else.

either way, this is what i was referring to. it was years ago that i had access. i also thought at one point that the libreplanet wiki was members only, fwiw.

i am referring to the 'libreplanet-discuss' list[1] - it does not require fsf membership, but is a public access list for the purpose of discussing general topics regarding free software, which seems to be exactly the purpose of this forum - so it would be a very good idea to unite them into one

i think that is the mailing list that the FSF recommends at the libreplanet conferences to be the preferred venue for general community dicussions

a discussion regarding future improvements to that list came upu recently and i offered this suggestion of uniting the lists to them also[2]
