DarkReader - extension for putting web pages in dark mode

I'm trying an extension on abrowser this week that's called 'DarkReader'. What it does is analyze the pages I visit and attempt to change the page colors to a useful dark mode. I had tried a similar extension a few years ago, but it just applied all the same color schemes to all pages, and was a bit of a mess. This one is working really well so far. You can get it directly from their github page: https://github.com/darkreader/darkreader

Or install it from the Mozilla addons website.

One web page that is ugly with DarkReader is Distrowatch - it turns the background into a disgusting vomit-colored mess. But fortunately DarkReader has a popup menu with some options for each page, and if I turn up the greyscale setting enough on Distrowatch the horrible background color disappears. DarkReader seems to remember the settings for different pages, so I only had to change the greyscale on Distrowatch once.

Page loading seems slower with this extension, and that could be a problem that will keep me from using it full time. But for pages that I want to stay on and read for a longer period of time, the fact that the page takes an extra couple of seconds to load initially is not a problem.

Just thought I would share. Hope everyone is enjoying their holidays!

I have used it for a short while and find it good.

Unfortunately some pages (like my bank's) don't work with DarkReader enabled *in the extension settings*

Hence, it is NOT enough to turn DarkReader off in its own settings dialog, you need to go to the Add-ons and themes page to disable it.

Other than that it's been fine

Oh really? That's odd. A bit of a bummer.

I've tried nearly all of my usual websites today, and haven't run into that problem. I guess I'll keep using it. I don't like the fact that it slows the opening of new pages, but it's so much better on my eyes that it's worth it.
