I noticed that gcc nor cc was default as a c compiler... Is this correct or did something happen with my install? I simply installed gcc, but was curious why it isn't installed by default. Is this to decrease the install file?

That's normal. As for why it's not installed by default, I think the reason is that most users don't need GCC.

I guess you could also look at it as a security measure.

Basically not having anything you don't use is a security measure. And a compiler gives a pretty uniquely useful tool for an attacker.

That's the thought that I had. If you need gcc, it is a simple apt-get away.
