Enigmail wont install

On my librebooted macbook 2,1 running Trisquel 7, I can not install enigmail. I have installed icedove 38.8.0 (and run update + upgrade). When trying to install enigmail (via terminal) I am told that some packages can't be installed (bla bla bla) and that the following packages have unresolved dependencies
enigmail : Dependencies: thunderbird (>= 38.0) or
seamonkey (>= 2.35) but they can not be installed.
E: Could not correct the problems, since you have kept/held back broken packages

(The actual wording might be different - I am translating from Danish)

When checking through synaptic there are no broken packages and the version of icedove/thunderbird should be fine.

I believe I have had this problem before (on a different machine), but can't remeber for sure. I have searched for the problem and its solution but can't seem to find it.

Can someone help?

In order to help you we will need the exact error output. I know it's Danish, but try to translate it in English and paste it here, the whole thing.

Thanks - I'll give it a shot.

So, what this message is saying is in order to install enigmail you need installed as its dependencies either one of the two and they have to be of a version equal or mayor than the mentioned one - thunderbird 38.0 ; seamonkey 2.35

I had no idea seamonkey was in the repo..
Which version of thunderbird are you using?

Try:
sudo apt-get install -f

You can get the English version by preceding the command with "LC_ALL=C " (without the quotes).

If 'sudo apt-get install -f' does not solve your problem, you can launch the "Synaptic Package Manager" from the "System Settings" or with the 'synaptic-pkexec' (no 'sudo') command, click on the "Custom Filters" button in the lower-left corner of the window and then on "Broken" (above). The broken packages will be listed. There should be none. Try to uninstall them for example (and to reinstall them later).

very good recommendation and very simple for the user to do. +1

did you try running "apt-get update" before installing enigmail via apt-get?

i've set up enigmail in trisqule before and trisquel 7 does have the package
