EOMA68, Parabola Questions

I was thinking about ordering the EOMA68 PC card with Parabola on it, with the wood desktop housing. It says the next shipment will go out in October.

Has anyone else ordered an EOMA68 yet? What is it like? What is Parabola like?

With the EOMA68 PC card, will I need special adapters or hubs to connect a VGA/DVI monitor and a USB keyboard and mouse? It looks like all the connections are small - micro USB/HDMI - is that correct? With the desktop housing, will I still need adapters, etc.?

Thanks.

Correction: the first shipment will hopefully go out in October. No one has an EOMA68-A20 (which I should mention is not the same as EOMA68, the standard). That said, I know the answers to a couple of your questions.

The micro-desktop housing contains USB and VGA ports, so no, no adapter is needed for a VGA monitor and USB keyboard/mouse. You might need a USB hub, though, since it only has two USB ports. One thing it does lack, though, is an audio jack, so you'll need an adapter for that (assuming you need audio). Like this, for example:

"It says the next shipment will go out in October."

This probably deserves a correction: It's not the next shipment but the first shipment. The EOMA68 has been delayed many times.

"Has anyone else ordered an EOMA68 yet?"

I did.

"What is it like?"

I have no idea, since it hasn't even shipped it. There are "EOMA68" videos online though/

"What is Parabola like?"

Parabola is a distro targeted for advanced computer users. You jump into the deep end.

Adapters? Probably, unless your stuff has micro connections on it. But I doubt it; haha! :)

The available information says it the micro desktop thing has 2 full-sized USB2 Host ports and a VGA port. Does your monitor have VGA?

If not maybe you can use the EOMA68's Micro HDMI connector (with adapter) to connect a full-sized HDMI plug? Although, if you're using the wooden housing, it's not clear to me if the EOMA68's ports are still accessible while it's in the housing. Because no one seems to have said and no one's shown what the back of that wooden housing looks like. This is probably a question to ask of the EOMA68 people.

The ports on the computer card are supposed to be usable when plugged in. So yeah, you can use the Micro-HDMI port on the EOMA68-A20 card while it's plugged into the micro-desktop.

Regarding HDMI, cables that use micro-HDMI always adapt to full-size, so that's not a problem; it just changes what cable you use. There's no adapter needed.

Thanks, everyone.

Just curious how long the project has been delayed for? Have they given any reasons? Supply issues, etc.?

When I started paying attention to the project the shipment date for the computer card was supposed to be June 15. When that date came it was changed to October 31, and this update[1] was posted explaining the reason for the delay and what the remaining steps are.

The crowdfunding campaign started more than 2 years ago: https://web.archive.org/web/20160701003505/https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68/micro-desktop

The earliest original shipping date was March 20, 2017. Now we're up to October 31, 2018.

Various things have happened. Updates are provided on on https://www.crowdsupply.com/eoma68/micro-desktop/updates
Check out the stories. :)

Their latest one from June changes the delivery dates yet again, saying "That puts actual delivery of the first units in late October. All delivery dates have been updated accordingly."

Luke seem very dedicated though and has been working on stuff in one form or another for many years. An example being http://lkcl.net/articles/fsf_endorseable_processor.html from the pre-EOMA68 days.
So I don't that that it will happen. Some day.
