Apparently it works if you disable cookies on web browser and it does not if you allow cookies -an error message appears on the video before loading-....????? (I am using Trisquel 3.5).

From the menu select Edit > Preference, then select the Privacy section. For History scroll to "Use customs settings for history". You can uncheck "Accept cookies from sites" or click on Exceptions, and enter a specific URL (www.youtube.com) and click on block. Hope that helps.
One more comment on this issue: Gnash seems therefore to be able to play flash at least up to version 9 -that is the highest version of videos I have tested so far on youtube-. On the other hand, the error message shown on youtube when you accept cookies seems to be the same which has been pointed to by users of different operating systems -including windows-, browsers and plugins (including Adobe flash, see e.g. http://www.google.es/support/forum/p/youtube/thread?tid=5b4a34bf768fb506&hl=es-), so, if it is not a question of flash version, what could actually be the reason for Gnash not being able to play flash on youtube or on other sites -Gnash does not work on some sites which seems to use flash 8, for example-? Is it web page design or what? It would be important to determine the technical reason since that would allow us to contact the administrators of the web pages pointing out exactly what the problem is and asking them to make the necessary modifications.

I've just compiled and updated the latest gnash snapshot into the 4.0
repository, it should now play youtube videos without tricks.
I'll do the same with the 3.5 repo today.
That is great, quidam. If you have time for it try to throw some light on the problems on other web pages pointed to in my last message, that would be useful in order to ask administrators to make necessary modifications on their web pages. Thanks a lot for the work.

You'd have to ask in the gnash-dev list, I just compile and update :)

Ok, I will try to find out there. As for the update for 3.5, Gnash plugin still has the same problem in Web Browser (I updated and rebooted but nothing). As for konqueror and klash, the same. Besides, konqueror has closed unexpectedly a couple of times after trying to load videos and videos do not show progress bar. Thanks again for the attempt.
Here seems to be the answer for Gnash failing to play flash v. 9 or even older versions: http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/gnash-dev/2010-04/msg00022.html
EDIT: Konqueror keeps crashing after Gnash update (must probably be due to it, I think). No problem on web browser, though.
