Jumping to GNOME 3.4 is not advisable. Somebody on this forum tried and had to revert. You can add some GNOME 3.2 components that were specifically selected for working with Ubuntu 11.10 (Oneiric). Trisquel 5.5 (Brigantia) using a very similar selection of packages as Ubuntu 11.10, this PPA should work well.

Out of curiosity: what reasons make you wish the latest GNOME (despite the potential unstability it would create in your system)?

If it is about "details" (such as the content of the menus/panels), you need to know of GNOME Shell Extensions. It is a wonderful improvement over what GNOME 2 offered.
