Any cost efficient decent laptop recommendations that work without non-free drivers?
If need be, I can buy my own RAM, Wifi Cards and whatnot.

What do ya'll use? (Note: I need to run VMs so Intel iCore Series or newer)

"Intel iCore Series or newer"

Software freedom and this are mutually exclusive, so please pick one or the other.
Newer Intel machine have fatal freedom problems: https://libreboot.org/faq.html#intel

If you're willing to give up the laptop form factor you can get some powerful machines like the KGPE-D16 or POWER9 stuff.

Having free drivers is not enough. Most non-Atheros WLAN cards do have free/libre drivers. However, those free drivers can't work without non-free firmware.

Ya, I know this. I do need to run VMs though. XEN sadly stopped supporting older devices.
Plus, I've heard that it is difficult to find decent batteries for these devices.

Mainly, just wanting to make sure that OSes like Trisquel will run.
I'de also like to get as free'd as possible.

These are for desktops and servers, correct?

Right; that's why I say "if you're willing to give up the laptop form factor"

"Mainly, just wanting to make sure that OSes like Trisquel will run."

Check out ThinkPenguin then. Some of the money goes to support Trisquel if you buy it using the special portal http://libre.thinkpenguin.com

first of all: hats off - trisquel is one fine distro on a lenovo x60s
and other lenovos it will just run very well.

yes - the free open source libre drivers only concept will drive a lot
of people nuts because their wifi and other network related stuff will
not work.

but if you can not trust your network card - what can you trust?

(will have to use a usb wifi dongle from http://libre.thinkpenguin.com
if you want it on a newer lenovo... but then there will probably be more
chips you can not trust, it is really time for free open source hardware
designs... RISC-V based laptop, where are you?)

you can build your own for around units 250 of your official currency.

My Guide to free as possible do it yourself a libreBooted laptop:

https://dwaves.org/2019/07/15/guide-for-as-free-as-possible-laptop-libreboot-x60s-atheros-wifi-trisquel/

core 2 duo is still reasonably fast if you also install a ssd

also: if you are concerned about privacy you SHOULD tunnel ALL traffic
(ALL! Including DNS queries) over tor and disable javascript.

so where is the guide to how to build your all-onion-router that does that?

buy more of those instead of raspberries and hope that it happens soon!

(no they are not yet full desktop replacements... people are working on
a "Libre VGA card" but it's a lot of work)

Thinkpad T400, T400s or X200 with libreboot, sparkling water and juggling balls. That's all I need
