How can I help bring new packages to Trisquel?

I recently switched to Trisquel as my daily driver from Arch. I've noticed a few packages have lagged behind enough to noticeably effect usability. For example, I've followed instructions elsewhere to update my youtube-dl from upstream. I figure if I'm already going to do this, I could help package these newer versions also. What's the process for bringing updated versions of these packages to Trisquel?

I believe this is the starting point:

feel free to join us at #trisquel-dev on Fridays at 12PM EST.

If you need latest packages, then Trisquel is not a wise choice. You'd probably encounter dependency problems. For example, you packaged latest foo, which requires a newer version of bar, but another package baz requires an older version of bar.

Hey, thanks for the link! I'll be sure to consult it when I need any new packages! I'll also likely pop on the IRC at some point, but to be honest, 12PM EST is a bit too early for me.

probably a better way to have the most modern packages for some programs is to install the Guix[0] package manager. I use it for "rolling" apps like youtube-dl and syncthing.
