This was an idea I came up with and shared with my $5+ backers on Patreon a couple months ago. If you would like to see such behind-the-scenes details, please consider supporting my Patreon page:

So what is Tangomon? Tangomon is an educational monster battling game, in the same sort of vain as Pokemon. It was designed with vocabulary in mind, but can be theoretically used for all kinds of learning. Your monsters, known as tangomon, attack with words, known as tangojis. When you have completely memorized a tangoji, you can convert it into a tangokan, which you can use to convince other tangomon to join your team. Your goal is simple: collect them all! Of course, I am personally a player, of course, which is why I developed it; I use Tangomon to study Japanese vocabulary and practice reading kanji.

A short video showing some Tangomon gameplay can be found here:

And the game itself can be found here (currently source code only):

Cool. But just to let you know, this game only works if there's something you know you want to learn, because you have to define the tangojis yourself and the game lets you define whatever you want. If someone were to play it without wanting to learn anything, they would probably cheat with easy tangojis (like matching "a" to "a" or something like that), and it would be rather boring if they did that.

So for kids, this is great for schoolwork. I don't know how interested they would be in the summer, though. :) It depends on how much they like learning, I guess.

I have no intention of re-skinning the same concept in another shell. But improvements to Tangomon itself are still a possibility. It all depends on my personal needs (since I did develop this specifically because it would help me study Japanese vocabulary) and what my $10+ Patreon supporters want to see me working on. I doubt I will be doing any more substantial work on this game; any work will likely just be incremental improvements (like the strength progression adjustment I made yesterday) and bugfixes. Of course, I will also gladly accept any non-regressive contributions other people make.
