Is it not software in old regular house telephones?

If I were to give up my cell phone (which there good reasons to do), I would still like to be able to be called and call from and to my house, with for example a regular house telephone one used to use back in the days.
But aren't there software in them as well?

I suppose it depends on the phone.
This doesn't:

So this is straight up only cables/wires and absolutely no software? Fascinating :)
Are these things for sale? lol

You could definitely buy a phone like that (albeit used, not new). There are still a lot around, since they're pretty rugged--they don't have a hard drive or a power supply, and only have a few moving parts, so they don't have many critical points of failure.
Enter "buy western electric model 2500 telephone" in your search engine of choice. You might also have some luck in your local pawn shop or thrift store.
This one definitely doesn't have software :)
