Itunes files and my ipod

Hi,
If I save my iTunes music files, can I play them on Trisquel? Also can I manage and load files on my ipod nano?
Thank you
You should be able to play and manage your music with an app like
rhythmbox or exaile in trisquel. I have lots of music I copied from an
Itunes Music folder on an iMac, and it plays with no worries. None of
this music happens to have any sort of DRM, even the few albums
purchased on itunes. To move the music, I connected to the iMac, using
the 'network servers' item on the Trisquel desktop, browsed to the
actual folder containing the music, then just did a 'select all' and a
'copy' operation on the Trisquel side. Note: the Itunes library
indices are probably of no use on the Trisquel side. Rhythmbox will
make its own indices based on your files' tags.
HTH,
Dave
Thank you Dave, I'm building a new PC and it will solely use Trisquel's OS.
Go for it, you hero.
Building a computer for Trisquel is the way to go, unless you plan to
buy one from a distributor like libre.thinkpenguin.com I got lucky with
this Asus netbook and hardware compatibility.
Lol, ok
I actually got an iPod back when they were the latest thing that everyone had and I didn't even know about free software. I want to say it was about 6 years ago. I noticed that the thing sucked; I couldn't see any way to put music on it in GNU/Linux because apparently you had to do it with iTunes. I hated Windows even back then, so I promptly returned the iPod.
I have no idea what the situation with Apple's digital media players is like today.
Thythmbox and exaile have plug ins for music transfer with these
devices. Still, I'd never get one. There are players that let one use
the free Rockbox app on the player. I find it silly that these things
don't just plug into a USB and make themselves show up in Nautilus as a
removable drive; older, non-Apple players used to do this.
Well, both the players I've had do this. One was the one ThinkPenguin sells, and one was an Insignia one ("Insignia" was a Best Buy brand which has since been discontinued). The only thing about both of these is that the manufacturers expect you to use a Windows program to convert videos for use on them.
I don't know how common it is, but there are players you can get that work like that.
I have a 5th generation iPod video that works great with Rockbox. Banshee supports copying videos to the iPod that the original (proprietary) firmware supports in case you want to watch movies on the iPod.
Mine is the iPod nano (6th generation).
You may be able to use gtkpod with it. Then again, your iPod may be too new and not supported yet. At one time I had a first gen iPod shuffle and gtkpod worked perfectly with it.
Yeah, I agree with Jeff. I used to use that app for my Galaxy Tab but I have sort of abandoned it. I`ll probably get around to it soon
Thank you all very much.
