Kdenlive, at this website,

http://www.kdenlive.org/user-manual/troubleshooting-and-common-problems/i-cannot-render-specific-format-xvid-mpeg-4-flash-it

says that I need to install the fallowing:

sudo apt-get install libavcodec-unstripped-52 libavdevice-unstripped-52 libavfilter-unstripped-0 libavformat-unstripped-52 libavutil-unstripped-49 libpostproc-unstripped-51 libswscale-unstripped-0

to get encoding to work on Kdenlive.

I have tried this in Trisquel 3.0 64bit and it doesn't know what these are.
They have also been somewhat picky when I have tried to download them manually.

Are these packages Free Software, and if so, what is an easy way to install them?

Thank GNU

Check in Synaptic Package Manager. There appear to be unstripped (whatever that means) versions of all these packages ready to install.

I might be looking at it wrong then.

When I typed in

libavcodec-unstripped-52

I get nothing.

libavcodec-52

gives me nothing.

libavcodec

gives me a package called

"libavcodec"

none of them unstripped none of them called

"libavcodec-unstripped-52"

I am running Trisquel 3.0 64bit. What do I need to do to see them like you do?

libavcodec52
libavcodec-dev
libavcodec-extra-52
libdlna0
libdlna-dev
winff

are all I get back

Thank GNU

I'm sorry, what I meant is that there appear to be versions of all these packages without the "unstripped" designation. I'm not sure if that designation is important or if both versions do essentially the same thing. To repeat: All of these packages appear in the repos without an "unstripped" designation, but not a single one of these packages has the unstripped version in the repos.

Have you tried Synaptic, or only the console? I can see these all in Synaptic.

The only other thing I can think of is that perhaps you have different Software Sources? Under the "Trisquel software" tab in Software Sources, officially supported (main), extra packages (extras), and source code are all checked. Under the updates tag, dwyn-security, dwyn-updates, and dwyn-backports are all checked.

Thank GNU for your help. Unfortunantly, I do think that the unstripped is important. I will keep working on it. Thank you.

Evidently, the distinction between "stripped" and unstripped" refers to the binaries of those libraries being Debian-specific, and therefore "stripped", whereas the unstripped libraries are for any distro. The ones with our repos should only be used with Debian packages. That's what I can glean from the description of these packages in Synaptic.

Go ahead and install these libraries and see if you have any errors.
