I have read about lemote and the loongson cpus. Are all lemote products free software devices? Apparently a http://www.tekmote.nl/epages/61504599.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/61504599/Products/CFL-008 loongson 3a notebook has been on sale.
Considering the price, no surprise if they could not sell it. Maybe it is still for sale in china. Is it a free software foundation complying free software notebook? Have you used it, owned it or tested it? What is the performance comparing to an intel duo core 2ghz? Is the mips architecture better than x86 or arm?

I upgraded to a Lenovo X60t (with coreboot and L7400 Core 2 Duo CPU),
it's much faster.

Loongson 3 computers use AMD GPUs which need nonfree software. Graphics
is slow even with the GPU driver using the nonfree firmware. Support in
FSF-endorsed distros is mostly dead, mainline kernel support is focused
on Loongson 3B CPU, there isn't much work on support for devices outside
of Lemote's distro. And currently the laptops are out of stock at
Tekmote; K85.com, the other European distributor, doesn't sell
Loongson 3 computers since they don't like blobs.

Comparing architectures separate from implementations is pointless; MIPS
might have educational advantages while there is much less support for
it in software not focused on routers and other embedded devices. There
are ARM chips at much lower power usage, and both ARM and x86 have
well-supported standarized SIMD instruction sets needed for tasks like
video decoding. (They also have English documentation of their
instructions, unlike Loongson which after 2F has only Chinese manuals.)

Does Lemote have any relation to Imagination Technologies? I'm asking in relation to Legimet's post here:

https://trisquel.info/en/forum/new-mips-single-board-computer

Edit: nevermind -- Imagination Technologies makes GPUs; I misunderstood

Loongson is an independent implementation of MIPS with different
internals, they do license MIPS from ImgTec for naming and patents.

They plan to use Vivante GPUs in their future devices, not PowerVR.

Thank you. Do you know the performance of 3b mainboards, again compared to an intel duo core 2ghz computer? Will 3b mainboards be free software devices? Wandboards have vivante gpus. Novena board has the vivante gc2000 gpu. It will get free software 2 and 3d graphic drivers. Do you know what vivante gpus the 3b mainboards will get?

3B has twice more cores than 3A, 1.5x frequency. I have no more
information on its performance. loongson.cn lists 3B boards with the
same GPU as 3A: RS780E from AMD.

Novena has a Vivante GPU, they want to support the development of the
etna_viv driver.

Tekmote.nl prices are about 5 times more expensive than from China with shipping.

Here are some examples of _real prices_ for 8089B model:

http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Lemote-Yeeloong-8089B-8-9-opensource-laptop-Loongson-CPU-inside-mini-notebook-computer-linux-pc-for/2036803548.html

Just $40-$60 , with free shipping for most countries. Yes, these sellers have bad reviews, but if you wait for some time there will be good sellers! Half year ago I saw a seller with high feedback who have been selling it for about $100. And that is still 3 times cheaper! Several years old netbook just should not cost 240 euro. I hate that speculator / profiteer attitude of Tekmote.nl
