For anybody who was interested in an Ultrabook the Penguin Royal is now available:
http://libre.thinkpenguin.com/
It has a built-in optical drive and we can ship with at least a handful of non-US keyboard layouts.
This is a great laptop for anybody interested in an Ultrabook + GNU/Linux. As most regulars here are already aware the computers and hardware we offer are free software compatible. Audio, 3d acceleration, web cams, ethernet, and USB are all supported out of the box with the latest version of Trisquel. This is also free of “treacherous computing” (the CPU does not support it).
Is is possible to see top-down picture of this notebook when the lid is open? I am considering purchasing one, but want to make sure that the trackpad/alpha-keys are centered against the display. On my current notebook, they are not and it bothers me to no end.
If I understand what you are asking the answer is they aren't. I haven't seen a centered touchpad in years. All laptops with wide screen displays have the touchpads off center I believe. In fact I think those prior to widescreen were also off center although not as noticeable due to the 4:3 screens.
Try measuring your older system some time. I think you'll find this to be true.
That said I'll try and get some additional pictures up for all to see some time next week.
As this model does not have a number pad it probably won't be as annoying to you as your older model is (assuming it has a number pad).
How well is the HD4000 video supported in the libre kernel or xorg?
As well as it can be: Intel develops itself the free driver (no difference between Linux and Linux-libre) and its performances are getting better and better.
Your link doesn't work. :(
You can't do any better. Hope that answers your question. They are comparable to the NVIDIA graphics chipsets on the low end and there are some features such as video acceleration which are supported even. All the expert reviews on the latest Intel chipsets have been impressed. This is in comparison to a number of years ago when they couldn't compete at all.
