I want to remind people that Libre Planet 2014 is coming up as well as the Northeast GNU/Linux Fest. Libre Planet is being held at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's Stata Center, at 32 Vassar St, Cambridge, MA. Ruben Rodriguez Perez, The Trisquel GNU/Linux Project Lead will be presenting Trisquel 7 at the event.

This year the Northeast GNU/Linux Fest will be held a week after on April 5 at the Residence Inn Marriot Hotel in Cambridge, MA.

ThinkPenguin probably won't be at the Northeast GNU/Linux Fest as we have a limited budget and the events are just too close together to do it easily. However we will be at Libre Planet this year so stop by our table if your attending!

If you were thinking of going to either event now is the time to get tickets and figure out accommodations. If you think you can't afford to go there are probably a number of cheaper options available. Sometimes price comparison search engines don't find the best deal. Inquire with people who are going. I know I'll be investigating it shortly myself. While nearby hotels are pretty expensive you may be able to split those costs of a hotel room with others, check out a hostel instead, or simply find a cheaper hotel. There are also grants from the FSF in some circumstances too.

So- who else is going (and to which events)?

I won't be there, but I'll surely be listening in! :-)

There's a fantastic line-up of programs this year:

There seems to be a lot on NSA/Snowden this year - it's good to see free
software programmers and activists are concerned about the revelations
and what impact they will have for free software users.

Oaw awesome!!!

Sadly I won't be able to go there.

I would love to hear what Ruben Rodríguez says in his speaking.
¿Will it be recorded and posted like the last year?

Also, all the keynote speakers are very interesting people. The Executive director of the Gnome foundation, Another executive director but now from the Wikimedia Foundation, Eben Moglen and, of course, Richard Stallman...
We don't have to forget the other speakers because I saw that all of them will be interesting.

Well, I wish you have a good time there.

No Stallman speech this year? I'm a bit disappointed...

I think Stallman's speech usually goes under the "Free Software Awards"
program.

Huh? Stallman is mentioned in the schedule as the last thing on Saturday.

Yeah, but "awards with richard stallman" sounds like he will be handing over the awards and that's it.

If I recall correctly it's a bit more than that, but yes, it's primarily focused on the awards.

Glad to hear people will be listening in at least!

I haven't actually had a chance to look at the schedule although from what I've heard it's suppose to be an interesting line up. At least if your into the counter-surveillance / privacy / etc angle where it crosses with free software.
