Loosing mouse and keyboard during backup to external USB SSD

I have a new Samsung T7 USB SSD that I tried using with BackInTime.

Repeatedly, mouse and keyboard become unresponsive and the keyboard LED is eventually off. I have them connected via a KVM that isn't connected to anything else. When I switch it back and forward, they are connected again (this simulates plug out and plug in, without having to do it physically as the plugs are not easy to access).

When this happens, the logs show the following sequence (every occurence is similar):
mai 12 15:30:14 kernel: usb 1-2.1: device descriptor read/64, error -32

mai 12 15:30:30 kernel: libvirtd[1153]: internal error: Missing udev property 'ID_VENDOR_ID' on '1-2.1'

I previously used a Samsung T5 USB SSD with BackInTime and such a problem did not occur. I noticed the last message libvirtd, I don't know whether it is because I recently installed virt-manager (but not virtual machine is running).

The keyboard and mouse become unresponsive as soon as the first message of the sequence occur (I saw this from "sudo journalctl -f" running in a terminal).

Is there a risk that my backup isn't ok?

I've had some pretty poor KVM over the years. On one, for example, pressing the button to switch from one to the other would cause the corresponding computer to think the screen, keyboard & mouse all got unplugged. The first thing I'd do for troubleshooting purposes is to try your setup without the KVM involved. That will either implicate the KVM being at fault, or rule it out.
