Manually Compiling a Newer Kernel

If I decided to compile a new kernel would that also activate non-free components that shouldn't be running in Trisquel.
I'm pretty sure the answer is yes and therefore I shouldn't consider it.

There are source tarballs of both Linux and Linux-libre. If you want to compile your own kernel, you can get fully-free versions from here.

No problem! This place is where Trisquel gets the kernel from.
I wonder why you would want to compile your kernel manually, it doesn't make the system faster like it used to (in kernel versions 2.2 afaik).

Support for more devices, such as the free Nouveau driver for nVidia cards.

@Cyberhawk Mainly I'm just doing it for the experience. I enjoy hacking my system.
Who knows it might update some of my IvyBridge support or SSD performance.
