Does Musix have any apps in its repository that Trisquel doesn't? Why not just do a music-oriented spin on Trisquel, with music apps being prominently featured, or even ask to have one be officially sponsored like Trisquel Mini?

I get that choice and freedom are important, but as FSF says, "If you wish to improve the state of free distros, helping to develop an existing free distro contributes more than starting a new one." In that vein, contributing to a living distro is probably better than reviving a dormant or dead one.

Setting up an operating system for audio production is more complicated than just installing a few programs. There are lots of tweaks that need to be made to get all the software working together from a real time kernel to setting up Jack and plugins. Also music-orientated distros will have more in the repos and are gonna keep everything up to date better as that is their main focus. When I am making music I like to know my operating system is fully focussed on the tasks at hand.

There are some brilliant distros out there which make producing music incredibly simple. Unfortunately they are mostly not 100% free. Musix is a brilliant distribution but is in desperate need of an update.

It is a different tool from Trisquel and I think there is a big need for it in promoting free software for creating free music, art and culture.
