hey guys im designing my own os that probably going to happen as soon as i pick what to base it one but i cant decide of anything - i am stuck between arch and debian- debian has the better repo and but arch as the AUR - i now if i pick debian i cant use bungie DE that the only flaw- i been thinking of the deign and the awsome looking grub loader logo but i cant decide the repo :(

A: Why are you designing your own OS? Unless you have a brilliant idea (think Guix) you're wasting your time. There are already great GNU/Linux distros out there.

B: You don't even know what base you plan on using... You clearly don't have a very good reason to make a new distro...

Why not help a distro that already exists? :)

Arch?

Go for PARABOLA instead (works with the AUR as well - or terribly, as Arch does)! https://parabola.nu/

Anyway, regarding the DE (surely you mwant Budgie?) does trying to install it to Debian via it Ubuntu PPA work (it might - that's how I installed Abrowser on Debian!)?

@JadedCtrl I don't know about whether whether (s)he should start a distro since something like "for the bloody sake of it" is (in my opinion) a perfectly valid reason, so who are we to really judge on that? :)

(A problem wih Arch/Parabola as a base is that you'll probably need to update the ISO more often than if you base the distro on Debian Stable instead)

Parabola (based on Arch) is Libre, Arch isn't, but Parabola should otherwise be treated as Arch (for it's otherwise pretty much identical), so why opt for Arch over it?

And they've got a graphical Live ISO as well https://wiki.parabola.nu/Get_Parabola#Graphical_live_ISO (although installation I guess involves, at the easiest, https://wiki.parabola.nu/Beginners%27_guide , but if you've got tech friends surely they can help out with that?)

Actually, now that you're on Arch, just move to Parabola without reinstalling! https://wiki.parabola.nu/Migration_From_Arch

Again: could you write understandable posts? Please use a spell-checker (Abrowser uses Hunspell) and reread your post before clicking the "Send" button.

Perhaps I should be the jerk in this scenario.
I have three hypotheses-- either he's:

A- Learning English.
B- Under 15 (Making a new distro is quite a naive in most cases, isn't it?) (Being under 15 isn't inherently bad, of course. Tom's under 15, but he's fantastical!)
C- Not quite sane.

EDIT: My hypotheses are false. See his comment below. vv

Maybe your efforts should be better spent in taking the Trisquel core and adding a different desktop to it and additional programs. If you can get a super sexy Cinnamon, MATE, or Unity version of Trisquel up and going, I wouldn't object.

Except that it was neither a knock-off or a lookalike, because it was actually
still Damn Small Linux- just with a different set of programs apart from the
default bundled selection.

That is nowhere near akin to 'making your own distro'. I do the same thing
whenever I install a distribution- I stick with a text-based setup and then
install things from scratch to my liking. At the end of the day, it is still
the same distro, but with different application choices.

That shouldn't have anything to do with your ability to type or express
yourself. Now if you could only concentrate enough to type for short periods of
*time* then sure, but the quality of the typing should not be diminished.

I would find it interesting, if someone would resurrect trisquel gamers (trisquel iso with some opensource games. Maybe some PC magazines would use that.

The Computer Bild, a computer magazine, sometimes bundles the Opensource DVD (http://www.opensource-dvd.de/) with their magazine, so it wouldn´t be impossible.

ill look into it but how to go about it cause alot of gammers like Gmone3? my first really challenge would be adding Gnome3 ti it - i saw a post ealier on some other thread. i cant remmber where though- but the sudo comand didnt work for adding gnome3

Sudo isn't the command that actually does the adding of packages to the system-
that would be apt-get. Sudo is the command which elevates the status of the
appended program to give it root privileges.

In order to install GNOME 3 (Shell) in Trisquel:

# apt-get install gnome

If you have fun doing it and don't care that it may result in failure, then just go for it.
A lot of great things origin from just playing around for fun.
