I am trying to setup an Internet connection with a Cisco EPC3208 modem. On the back of the modem it also says Euro DOCSIS 3.0 EMTA.

The ISP is not the usual kind, they provide the service through TV-cable. The modem supposedly needs no connection data like username and password. It is supposed to connect right out of the box, but it doesn't. On the CD that comes with the modem is a manual. There I found out that I have to "tell my provider the MAC address and serial number of the modem". I tried entering the MAC address provided into the Auto eth0 connection, but without luck.

Does anyone have some experience with this sort of thing?

Apparently, the modem just needed a restart. Internet is working totally fine right now.

For everyone who is living in Germany and has to use unitymedia (which has a big number of disadvantages actually, like a semi-static IP): the Cisco modem works just fine, but might need a restart, as mentioned.

Did you already add this useful info to http://www.h-node.com/ ?

Actually no, I didn't notice that h-node has modems listed as well. As soon as I'll get access to the PC with that modem again, I'll do it!
