Guvcview worked brilliantly in Trisquel 6. Cheese works and the video in Jitsi is great in Trisquel 7 but I have no picture in Guvcview. Is anyone else having this problem?
Could anyone confirm or deny whether guvcview is working for them? Thanks
Installed on a older notebook (32 bits, Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 1.73GHz, Mobility Radeon X600 SE): gucview 1.7.1-1ubuntu1 (+libwebcam0,uvsdynctr,uvcdynctrl-data). Using a Logitech webcam and it works for me.
Thanks for the reply. I have all those packages and I've messed with every setting I can find. I'm using 64bit but if I know someone has it working I guess it must be at my end. Thanks again.
Did you get one or more error messages when starting guvcview in a terminal?
Out of curiosity, I will install it on a 64bit machine this weekend to see what happens.

It might help if you include the hardware that you are trying this on. I recall getting a very similar error on an Asus EEE 1001P for the default configuration on guvcview, but unfortunately I did not have time to chase this issue at the time and I not longer have that laptop ( I was able to view camera output in vlc and that was the only thing I tried ).
I am currently using guvcview on a Samsung-NP530U4B and it's working very well on the default configuration.
It's on Lenovo g580 i3 with Creative Labs Live Cam
Curiously forgot about vlc but on T6 it was terrible.
Just tried VLC now and with 100ms caching it seems almost perfect.
;) Thanks
Well it's took me nearly a week (my internet searching leaves a lot to be desired) but I finally found the developers answer.
Hi,
the current ubuntu guvcview version is broken with kernels >= 3.16, you need the latest version 2.0.1
You can get it from the sourceforge download (Files) section or from one of my ppa's:
stable: https://launchpad.net/~pj-assis/+archive/ubuntu/ppa
testing (latest git): https://launchpad.net/~pj-assis/+archive/ubuntu/testing
Regards,
Paulo
