A printing press (Linotype) from 1921, still going strong, spewing newspapers at the rate of 530 monthly copies.

Linotypists used to be a breed of their own, not unlike today's coders or developers. They were well paid, they could practically choose who they worked for, not much different from today's nomads.

Typesetting evolved into computing from hot metal to cold type (phototypesetting), troff, TeX, LaTeX. Today, anybody can be a typesetter at home – all you need is a computer and a laser printer.
