I'm using a dual sound card setup and need to switch between them from time to time. By that I mean switching which soundcard is outputting the signal. With the default ALSA + PulseAudio setup it was very easy - both soundcards showed up in the Sound Preferences and I could switch the output device on the fly.

I followed the instructions to installing OSS4 and now I can't switch between my soundcards. Sound preferences only sees the card, which has vmix0 (as the ossxmixer shows).

Not sure what vmix is and if not being able to switch between soundcards on the fly is a general restriction in OSS. Is there a possibility to switch between output devices easily, like before, or should I just revert back to ALSA?

After mindlessly editing this and that in default.pa I come to the conclusion, that it is quite likely I need to set up Pulseaudio in a way, that it can utilize more than one OSS-device, thus allowing me to switch between output devices on the fly as before. What I managed to do, was to specifically assign one of my soundcards a number, so that it would load first and work. The other one remained unusable, at least for Sound Preferences (and Pulseaudio in general?).

Please, someone give me a hint. I have very little clue about that stuff. Is it even possible to make Pulseaudio switch between OSS-devices on the fly? Or does it only work in ALSA?
