Hallo, I am working on a Medion PC and trying to install Trisquel from a flash drive (Pen Drive/USB). I have accessed the bios using del and changed the boot sequence so as to place hard drive as 2nd and 3rd option, usb as first. But it still continues to boot from the hard drive so I cannot install Trisquel:-( There was also an option to enable boot from external devices and that also didn't change anything. Anyone with an idea? The bios is Phoenix Award BIOS CMOS Setup Utility 5.08
Have you managed to boot that box off USB before? Can you boot off that USB on another machine?
My bios shows this menu:
Execute Disable Bit Enabled
Hyper Threading Function Enabled
Quick Boot Disabled
Security Option Setup
Boot to OS/2
Boot Sequence
When selecting Boot Sequence it says:
Hard Disk Boot Priority Press Enter
1st Boot Device USB-CDROM
2nd Boot Device USB-FDD
3rd Boot Device Hard Disk
Boot From Other Device Enabled
When selecting Hard Disk Boot Sequence it says:
1. Ch2 M. : WDC WD3200JD-22KLBO
2. Bootable Add-in Cards
I haven't ever tried to boot this PC from a USB, if this is what you mean by "that box"?! The stick works fine on my laptop and is bootable.
That all does seem to be fine... Perhaps try another USB stick or a CD/DVD. Booting from USB is somehow funny.
Thank you but actually booting from CD doesn't work either. He only wants to boot from the bloody hard drive.
Stubborn computer! You wouldn't happen to have an external CD drive handy?
Besides that you might try to see if there's some setting in the BIOS that could be related, like legacy USB mode or something.
Thank you so much love. I called the Medion support now. They told me that their older computers cannot boot from CD ROM or USB flashdrive, only harddrive or DVD. So I tried that and it worked. Thanks a lot for your help. Hail to the falafel!
Glad you got it sorted.
