How do you go about navigating PeerTube? To get quick access to the most content, you would want to connect to the instances who have the most peers, no?
https://fediverse.network/peertube
But all the instances on the list show has having no peers.
Explain this to me so I can explain it to others.
Each instance has a "local" tab, which only shows videos on that instance, and "discover" tab, which also shows stuff on other instances. There is also a search engine that searches all known instances here: https://sepiasearch.org/
I'm not sure what that page means by "peers" or why it's blank.
Great. Thanks.
What about for content creators that want to get their stuff up on PeerTube? What should I tell them about this process? I could find the best instances for them to make it easy for them.
It's probably best to pick an instance with
* good uptime/reliability
* a good fit for the kind of content they create
In general, we don't want too many people congregating into the same instance. Spreading out among different instances helps keep the network decentralized, and forming groups with similar goals, values, and expectations helps with community building. For example, the other day I posted my first PeerTube video, and I chose watch.breadtube.tv, because it seemed like a good fit for left-leaning political content, but for other kinds of content there are other instances that would be a better match.
Because peertube is a torrent system, isn't
the software terrible on privacy?
