Hello all! I just setup my DJ Mixer with a Pioneer DDJ-SB2 with Serato DJ Intro on my Mac and it works great! However, I have Trisquel computer I want to use with the DDJ-SB2 and Mixxx (has community support) and at least for its sound card.

I am starting to think that the DDJ-SB2 won't work because Trisquel is a Libre distro. Does anyone know how I can go about figuring out why the DDJ-SB2 won't seem to function at all? How can I add support for it?

just try it out! if that does not work, check Debian. sometimes not having GPL drivers AVAILABLE IS BAD news!
ACCORDING to the website is windows and mac compatible nothing else. Have you try out audacity for compatibility?

Recording your mix with Audacity

Audacity is a free, easy-to-use audio editor and recorder for Windows and Mac. This is a great application to use when recording a mix with Serato DJ.

You can use Audacity to:

Record live audio.
Edit MP3, WAV or AIFF sound files.
Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together.
Change the speed or pitch of a recording.
And more!

USB has a number of different so-called device classes, see http://www.usb.org/developers/defined_class. As long as devices follow the standard they're supposed to work out of the box. Just like how you don't need to install a special program in order to use a USB flash drive. It identifies itself as a Mass Storage Device (which is one of the USB device classes) and the computer knows how to work with it.

According to the information at https://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/pioneer_ddj-sb2 the DDJ-SB2 identifies itself as a USB MIDI and audio device, which is one of the USB device classes.

Start looking at logs first and see what you see. Make sure it's being identified correctly.

Things in /var/log. In particular dmesg and syslog.

I just got the DDJ-SB2 working with Trisquel and Mixxx by using the DDJ-SB2 only as a controller and using a separate (better) audio interface for playing via speakers. For listening via headphones I set it up in the Mixx hardware settings to use my laptops built-in sound card. All is working at least. Viewing the log files wasn't helpful for me in this case. At least I know that Trisquel can handle this device.
