Samsung M2825DW laser printer.

Can it be made to work under Trisquel?

If so, can it be made to work over the wifi?

I am reading things and it looks like it may be possible. CUPS?

The only resource I have found that specifically mentions my model is here:

https://www.openprinting.org/printer/Samsung/Samsung-M262x_282x

But aside from indicating that there is support, there's nothing else. That I can find.

Thanks for your patience. I'm completely new at this.

If it works, it should work out-of-the-box, so try it with the live CD and you'll know.

The only printer manufacturer that does a really good job in this department is HP. I think all of them require proprietary firmware, but a large number of them have that firmware built-in, so they will at least work without the OS having to load that proprietary firmware (e.g. on Trisquel). That is, once the version of hplip needed for the printer is available in the distro you're using, which can be a couple years depending on the time (not HP's fault, just the way LTS distros work).

The next time you look for a new printer, you may want to shop at Think Penguin. They sell slightly old HP printers, so that they will work with the current version of Trisquel, and choose models that work without the OS having to load proprietary firmware onto them (again, so that they work with Trisquel). I can't try anything out of the box - I have no idea whatsoever what I'm doing. Looking for pointers. Even for a printer that is out-of-the-box-compatible, I have no idea how to set it up. Looking for direction. Why does my M2825 show up on that list? Am I wasting my time?

Are there intermediate devices I can send a print to that will put it together and forward it to the printer? Yes, it's not freeware, but I have to have a windows machine running somewhere in the house, as my wretched job requires it.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what you mean. All you do is plug the printer in and see if you can add it under "Printers" in the system settings, then try to print something. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, either you need a newer version of the driver (common with newer HP printers; you'll get that probably in the next Trisquel release), or it requires proprietary software to work.

What is this page all about? It implies that there is a driver that will run this printer in Linux. Which I imagine includes Trisquel? I am reading this wrong?

Thanks.

Is it free software? I cannot find a license and a source code.
