Hi,

I have a problem after a general upgrade of Trisquel pakages and jxself.org's linux-libre.

It seems the
deb mirror://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt freesh main
can't connect.

I have :

$ sudo apt-get update
Atteint :1 http://ppa.launchpad.net/jre-phoenix/ppa/ubuntu xenial InRelease
Atteint :2 https://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel flidas InRelease
Atteint :3 https://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel flidas-security InRelease
Atteint :4 https://archive.trisquel.info/trisquel flidas-updates InRelease
Err :5 mirror://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt freesh InRelease

http://ppa.launchpad.net/jre-phoenix/ppa/ubuntu xenial InRelease is for Peerguardian.

Some of the controls of the menu bar have dissapeared like the sound control and I don't have sound anymore.

Thank you

Indeed, linux-libre.gnulinux.si is down. It should maybe be removed from https://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt

In /etc/apt/sources.list, you can substitute "mirror://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt" with one of the URLs in https://linux-libre.fsfla.org/pub/linux-libre/freesh/mirrors.txt (except http://linux-libre.gnulinux.si/freesh/ of course).

I believe your sound problem is an unrelated issue.

Thank you Magic

It worked well.

For this sound problem, I didn't know what exaclty happen, but it seems some packages have been uninstalled when I upgraded.

I thought to make before a back up of my favourite softwares with deselect.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dselect

A very usefull software ! Also recommanded for cloning a system.

So, from the generated text file by Dselect before the problem, I could restore the uninstalled packages and it was solved.

Greetings from France and hope everything's alright for you and your family and friends.

For those who prefer graphical interfaces, Synaptic can be used as well: https://trisquel.info/en/wiki/cloning-system-or-how-make-copy-installed-packages-one-computer-another

Is this only for cloning config between Flidas and Flidas, or can I also use it for replicating my Flidas setup on my new Etiona partition?

Do you mean this?
https://sourceforge.net/projects/peerguardian/

The newest release files there are from 2016, and according to that page, it's not being developed anymore for GNU/Linux or MacOS, and the Windows version has been forked as PeerBlock.

Yes it is.

I knew this was not developped anymore.

OK, I could have done a tar.gz installation rather than a ppa install.
I know the general opinion about ppa here and to avoid it.

But some great historical libre softwares like Inkscape have their own official ppa on their official site to get newest versions.
https://inkscape.org/release/inkscape-0.92.5/gnulinux/ubuntu/ppa/dl/

So, yes. Don't use PPA's because you don't know what can become to the licence.
But when it is coming a great software that have millions of tutorial, and you know the licence won't change (until all specialized news on Linux, blogs and forums, even here on the Trisquel forum, would talk about a eventual change of licence)... well, why not use this PPA ? This would be... stupid not to use it when avaliable.

But peerguardian also stands on ip blocklists that have to be upgraded as well.

So what do you mean by that ?

Is the use of an non developped is a risk of security even with upgraded lists ?

Or is it better to continue using a personal security software with upgraded lists ?

Is there any alternative ? Or is it just useless to still use it ?
