Security cameras using free as in freedom software.

Greetings ladies and gentlemen:

I've been required to install security cameras. the client made the selection with the samsung DVR: SDS-P3040

I have no choice but to install that system they want but I want to recommend the use of free as in freedom sofware for the next time.

¿Could you recommend me security cameras that works with free software or some recommendations about this subject? I'm clueless.
