Hello Trisquel Users,

I migrated from Linux Mint to Trisquel. Now I miss the Thunderbird Addon "Lightning", which is a Calender. Does anybody know an Alternative in Trisquel?

Thank you for an Answer..

Lightning is installed by default, through the package "xul-ext-lightning". Isn't it listed among Icedove's add-ons (accessible from the "burger menu")?

Hello Magic Banana,

Thank you for your answer!

I just saw, that Lightning and Enigmail are installed by default in "icedove" in my first User Account. With this Account I administrate. But in the second Account, my normal User Account, both "Lightning and Enigmail" are marked as "not Kompatible".

What is wrong with my ysecond User Account? Can you tell me?

Try installing Lightning from https://addons.thunderbird.net/thunderbird/downloads/file/633791/lightning-5.4-sm+tb-linux.xpi (save the file and open it from the gear menu of the list of add-ons, in Icedove).

That is the latest version that is compatible with Thunderbird 52.* on https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/2313/versions/ (add-ons for a given version of Thunderbird are compatible with the same version of Icedove, which is Thunderbird rebranded).

You are welcome, I can't help you because I'm a Evolution user. Maybe you can try "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xul-ext-lightning" don't forget to update the repository "sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade".

Hi Trisquell Users,

unfortunately i could not solve the Problem with Icedove and Lightning. In my opinion the resource in Trisquell is too old, and I could not get the old Version of Lightning. Also I tried without success, to install a newer Thunderbird.I'm not so fit, to help the Repository updating. I like Trisquel, but cause the Problem with the old Thunderbird or Icedove I decided to install a new Debian and leaved Trisquell. I have good wishes for Trisquel, and maybee, I try it a nother Time.

I gave you the link to the last version of Lightning that Icedove/Thunderbird 52.* (the version that Trisquel 8 ships) supports. In that post: https://trisquel.info/forum/seek-alternative-lightning-calender-icedove#comment-141069

There are several ways to install the latest version of Thunderbird too. For instance this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~mozillateam/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/

Or you could have downloaded the compressed archive with the localization of your choice on https://www.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/all/ and, after decompression, executed the "thunderbird" file it contains. It works: I have just tried it. The PPA integrates the software in the system (you do not need to create your own launcher, etc.), proposes you updates, etc.

Thank you, Magic Banana.
My ability in installing is a little poor in this time. I will need more time, to try your advice. Maybe it helps another user in this time.
Later on i try your advice.

Friendly Greetings to you!
