What is exactly the implications of having "Amazon" and "Ebay" as sponsored shortcuts in Abrowser?

I just realize now that I had deactivated them in Trisquel 9. They also show up in Trisquel 10.

Sorry, that should have been: "What exactly are the implications of having "Amazon" and "Ebay" as sponsored shortcuts in Abrowser?"

I also noticed that google was showing up as default search engine in the advanced MATE menu. This can be remedied through right-click on the MATE menu icon, in Preferences > Applications.

Please make sure you have a new profile for testing, as we try to remove those firefox sponsored changes as we note them.

But only new profiles can show the real behavior of abrowser, as you might be seeing some old behavior from a non-fixed version.

I might suggest,

mv ~/.mozilla ~/.mozilla_

Open the browser, and see the behavior, then close and remove the temporary .mozilla folder created on the home folder when opening abrowser (keep .mozilla_),
Then restore your original folder by,

mv ~/.mozilla_ ~/.mozilla

If you see a clean profile on the current version showing amazon or ebay sponsoring, please report it.

I see, thanks.

The sponsored shortcuts still show up in Abrowser with a new profile on a freshly updated T10.

For some reason, I only get one sponsored shortcut, and none of the Scamazon or Flea-bay ones, just a shortcut to this rather interesting looking online shop:

I think it's upside down. I think it's a lemming the morning after party night.

That looks like Boris Johnson after his hair has been properly whipped into a frenzy by his stylist.

I'll tell the lemmings you wrote that, and I think they will be very hurt.

Or were you in fact referring to Joris Bohnson, the famous zipline rider. They were very fond of him.

In about:config, set browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showSponsored, browser.newtabpage.activity-stream.showSponsoredTopSites, and browser.urlbar.suggest.quicksuggest.sponsored to false.

I've tested 3 machines, and I can't reproduce the issue.
In all 3 of them LGTM.

Thanks, they don't show up by default any more. They are still lurking in the settings panel, though.

This is what I am referring to: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/sponsor-privacy.

Is there no convenient way to completely get rid of that anti-feature before it gets rid of us?

We need to appease it with a sacrifice before it destroys us all. I'm thinking a magic banana would make a good sacrifice.

If you do not mind, I would prefer that you would "unselect Sponsored shortcuts" following one of the processes explained behind the link lanun gave (for instance, "change your setting for Sponsored shortcuts by clicking the gear icon at the top right corner of the New Tab page").
